"Makepeace’s words infiltrate your mind like smoke, permeating it so subtly with the odd and the off-kilter, you don’t realize until you’re completely enmeshed in her uncanny world. I never wanted to leave." —Claire C. Holland, I Am Not Your Final Girl
"The worlds she creates in her stories exist down a street you didn't know was there, in a building you keep meaning to visit, on a day when it felt like life was happening somewhere else. They're irresistible."—Lise Quintana, publisher Zoetic Press
Do you know what it means to be haunted? To lose yourself in a world where you don't quite fit? This selection of stories proves that the emptiest rooms can often be the most crowded.
With its titular novella acting as anchor, "The Sound of Breaking Glass," an atypical possession tale, dares you to peer into darkened corners in search of other worlds. From a fry cook's unlikely ascent to power, to a fashionista's deconstruction, these stories will wiggle into your brain whether you like it or not.
Exploring loss of self, isolation, and the soul-crushing machine that is capitalism, The Sound of Breaking Glass (and other weird tales) is an unflinchingly weird, lush, and mournful collection of fiction.

"Makepeace's words infiltrate your mind like smoke, permeating it so subtly with the odd and the off-kilter, you don't realize until you're completely enmeshed in her uncanny world. I never wanted to leave." —Claire C. Holland, I Am Not Your Final Girl
"Makepeace's stories have the quality of dreams, but the sort of dreams that you think about for the rest of the day, never quite able to pinpoint the moment where it all went weird. The worlds she creates in her stories exist down a street you didn't know was there, in a building you keep meaning to visit, on a day when it felt like life was happening somewhere else. They're irresistible."—Lise Quintana, publisher Zoetic Press

While I would definitely place this one in the horror genre, there are so many different undertones here that were fun to uncover while reading through.
Christine is certainly an author that fans of unsettling and emotional horror should be keeping an eye on!
