Since murder mystery is my favorite genre, I read many authors who continue with their characters in later novels. I'm glad this story ends with an opening for sequels and hope to see one soon.
His first novel, The Keeper of the Crows was fantastic; filled with paranormal horror, I couldn't stop reading it. The same happened with A Sound In The Dark. This fast-paced novel will suck you in and you will not stop, won't be able to stop until you've finished it! I started on Wednesday, but had to go to church. I finished it off Thursday, and was like, "WOW!"
The story is about a young man, doing his best to deal with a devastating loss. Feeling he needs to rage against God, friends and life in general, he becomes a self-made hermit. But his friends won't relent. They talk him into a camping trip at a national park. But the forested land is a breeding ground for death. Something is out there, and it wants to pick them off, one at a time...
A Sound In The Dark, by Kyle Alexander Romines is a talented author. This novel, originally started when he was in high school, I believe, happens so fast, so surprising and so thrilling- I felt like I was watching everything take place. The story consumed me and I couldn't stop reading. At. All. Except when I was forced to, due to an engagement.
Filled with twists and turns, I studied to keep up- I even managed to figure out two of the many factors to the story. With a proud chest, I set the book down, completed with a grand smile on my face and no one to share it with. Don't you just hate that!?
Anyway, check out Romanes' A Sound In The Dark- available everywhere! I'm off to the next read. Cheers!
The moral aspect of the book was good. The stresses of the situation bring out the good and bad in certain campers. One of them is a Christian and the hope Jesus offers is touched upon a couple times.
The reasons for that theme being present are the struggles of main protagonist Zack who's depressed over his girlfriend's death. The flashback aspect telling that story was ok at first, but it started to annoyingly break up the suspense later on.
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first to the last page. It's a non-stop thriller!
If you're into action packed thrillers with a hint of horror I highly recommend this book for you to read!
