Editorial Reviews

Review

"In The Sound of the String, Brad Isham takes the reader on a safari into the heart of Africa -- the land, the animals, and the people. It is an evocative tale that comes to a stunning conclusion. Highly recommended."
~Jan Neuharth, author of the Hunt Country Suspense novels

"[I] enjoyed this book very much. It brings a perceptive eye to Africa, taking the reader beyond the five senses to a deeper, more intuitive understanding of what the people and the animals are feeling."
~Hay Hardy, Publisher, Virginia Sportsman

"Fabulous book! If you love a good story and good literature, whoever you are, you should read it! Extremely well done! [I] love the little twists and turns and surprise ending."
~ Larry Weishuhn, author and TV host,
Trailing the Hunter's Moon

This is one of the most outstanding books I have been privileged to read about hunting in Africa. Brad Isham is a skilled writer and draws the reader into the book immediately. The characters are strong, interesting, and very human; the conflicts are realistic and keep the pace of the novel moving forward. Even minor characters are sufficiently well developed so that the reader would like to know more about their lives. There is gentle humor, emotional turmoil, and great personal triumph throughout the book.

Allow yourself the luxury of time to read "Sound of the String" without interruption. If you do not, you will find yourself thinking about the characters and wondering what is going to happen to each one. In my opinion, that is the mark of a great book - the author has captured your attention and quietly demands you give it to nothing else. I have never read any book about hunting or life in Africa before. I was pleasantly surprised and could not put book down for a second until read the last chapter.

Had I been allowed to rate this book more than five stars, I would have done so. It is truly a masterpiece.

Cannot wait to read his next Novel.

AWESOME book! "I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. As an old bowhunter, seldom do I find a read that makes me feel like I am right there, in a blind, or stalking game. Masterful job and I look forward to reading your next work. But, for now, take a breather and savor the moment, you deserve it!"

I thought this would be another book of hunting stories and it was to an extent. It was also a lot more. Brad has a way of keeping you on the edge of your seat. I found it was hard to put the book down. I did not see the ending coming. You will definitely want to go to the "Afterword" on line to finish the story.
The funny thing is I know a man named Gordon Bradford, I will never be able to look at him the same way ever again.
Excellent read.

I initially wondered how a whole novel could be written about "bow hunting" but I quickly discovered that The Sound of the String is much much more than just bow hunting. It is apparent that Mr. Isham has both experienced and studied the African culture. The manner in which he delves into the different personalities of the hunters, camp crew and the hunted is extremely vivid and real. Once I got into the novel, I could hardly put it down. I couldn't wait to read the next chapter to see what was happening with Gordon (the main character) and all of the camp crew. This is Mr. Isham's first novel but it certainly will not be his last!

Very good book. A passionate writer with a good story to tell and he tells it well. Bow hunting in Africa is quite a challenge so much of the book is exciting if you enjoy hunting stories. The descriptions of the camps, the people and their lives are great as well.

A read definitely worth your time and money! The style is extremely readable and draws you into the characters. You are drawn into the emotion of each scene; visualizing it as if you were watching it in high-definition. Whether its the mind of a bowhunter or the spirit of an adventurer you are captivated by the people and the circumstances. You will feel the thrill of the hunt and the mystery of the Dark Continent....then you will receive a surprise--4 more chapters on the author's website. I loved the whole part that featured Dagga Boy! I felt as if I had been at Gordon's side throughout the entire adventure. Buy it you wont be sorry!

Archery enthusiasts will enjoy this novel. It describes Africa and the animals so well I could see them in my mind's eye. The story was an enjoyable easy read. I hope the author keeps writing about what he loves.
