"Hideaway" by 25 year old Canadian singer/songwriter Kiesza topped the UK singles charts earlier this year. The booming house anthem is reminiscent of 90s dance acts like Robin S or Haddaway.

She's written songs for acts like Rihanna and Gorgon City ("Go All Night" featuring Jennifer Hudson). For fans of dance, there are more club friendly numbers like the Trancey "No Enemiesz", "The Love", "Giant In My Heart", and "Over Myself".

"So Deep" is midtempo soul with moody synths and a sultry vocal, while "Vietnam" is more upbeat with an electro beat. "Losin' My Mind" featuring Mick Jenkins is hip hop laced, as is "Bad Thing" featuring Joey Bada$$.

Speaking of Haddaway, Kiesza reworks his dance hit "What Is Love" as a plaintive piano ballad allowing her really flex her lungs. Other ballads are the title track, "Piano", and "Cut Me Loose". Nice as some of the ballads may be, her strong point seems to be uptempo club numbers. 3 and a half stars really.

Does anyone remember the 90's U.K. Dance artist Cathy Dennis? She had a couple of big dance hits in the 90's - "Just Another Dream", "C'mon and Get My Love" (with D-Mob) and "Touch Me (All Night Long)". Well, if you liked Cathy's music, you will definitely enjoy Kiesza's "Sound of A Woman". Although Cathy is a great singer.....Kiesza has a much stronger voice. I really love how her album takes you back to the '90's club sound and mixes it in with today's current styles. She even takes Haddaways '90's hit "What Is Love" (which was a dance hit at the time) and Kiesza turns it into one of the most beautiful ballads I ever heard!!! (That where her voice really shines the most!!!)

I first learned about this 25 year old Canadian artist while surfing ITunes for some dance songs. At that time she only had one EP with 4 songs (which, btw are all featured in this new album as well). Among my favorite songs on this album are: "HIDEAWAY" (which was the first single from her EP and was a major hit for her internationally and a video of the song had a very interesting concept where she did one camera take and danced thru 2 city blocks with other dancers....loved it!!!). Another dance hit "GIANT IN MY HEART" (which was also on her EP and had a great video), "WHAT IS LOVE" (The Haddaway remake turned into a ballad), "NO ENEMIESZ" (Which is new and the next single to hit the airwaves), "THE LOVE" (Another new dance song) and the title song "SOUND OF A WOMAN" which really shows Kiesza's strong vocals.

Even though her style is closely related (in my opinion) to Cathy Dennis, I really do believe Kiesza might become the next upcoming hit maker (in the likes of Madonna, Christina Aguilera).

A wonderful pop record, one of the best from 2014 I've heard to date.

Kiesza's soulful vocal approach and Rami Samir Afuni's deep house production make for a potent combination. The result is an album that makes you want to dance while walking down the sidewalk, yet still speaks directly to anyone wrestling with the joys and pitfalls of love.

As other reviewers have noted, the 90's influence is very well apparent. There are more or less three categories of song on this record (favorites noted):
* Deep house ("Hideaway," "No Enemiesz," Giant In My Heart")
* Piano ballads ("What is Love," "Cut Me Loose," "Sound of a Woman")
* Slow, smooth R&B jams for the bedroom ("So Deep," "Piano")

Kiesza approaches each of these styles really effectively. The only caveat I will add is that some tracks feature rappers whose lack of writing skill and technical emceeing ability ultimately distract from what would otherwise be good songs. Those are the only songs I skip, and out of a thirteen song album that's not bad.

Wonderful soft club music... this CD has become one of my favorites and the hubby loves it. Nice to get into the mood for (if you know what I mean) great for during driving or w h Ile I am working (I work at home - designer) it is not LOUD! Good beat. And is very pleasant on various times of the day. Especially when you get ready and dress to go out for the evening!
Great artist... hope to expand my collection and add more of her CD's in the future.
Other artists I love are: deborah cox, Melanie Fiona, Toni Braxton.

Absolutely incredible artist! Kiesza is a "true" artist, in the sense that she really sings live, and while dancing! This girl can do everything! Great voice, great rhythm, great taste, and of course great songs! Her songs make me so happy, make me want to dance, bring me to tears, and contemplation! Incredible emotional ride in a good way! My favorites are "Hideaway", "Vietnam", "Giant in my Heart", "Enemies", "Over Myself". But every song is fantastic, reminds me of the 90's techno house, I love it! I can't say enough, she blows my mind!

Kiesza is an incredibly talented performer. While I like the cuts of electric dance and rap, I think she really shines as a vocalist. This is an upbeat recording that will get you moving, physically and emotionally.
