I was very happy with this when we first got it: Very clean sound, very good functionality. But the entire reason that we upgraded to this over the Mackie we had previously was the USB output of 12 channels, allowing us to record directly into a DAW on a laptop.

We are using this for a podcast, with multiple hosts and occasional call in guests via Skype (thus the need for the Aux out for Mix-Minus.) We had been recording into a digital recorder and then transferring the files into a program on the computer for editing. We use high quality mics and overall good equipment. We bought this so we could use the USB output to directly record on a DAW (basically an editing program) on the computer, with each mic having their own channel. However, as we tried this, we discovered the USB output is VERY low - so low that the maximum output we can get into the computer is about -32db. That's really too low to be of use.

After reading numerous forums, I'm seeing the same complaint by a lot of people, so it's not just my board. People have said Soundcraft tech support has had no solution to the problem. So we will probably end up selling this and trying to find something else. However, after more research I find that this board is ideal for mixing musical instruments and the USB output is just not designed for a vocal recording (such as a podcast.) The main outs are fine, just not the USB outputs.

We have now been using this for our live shows for several years, and are very happy with it.

We need only three inputs - 2 acoustic guitars and one talk mic - but we wanted several outputs (at that time) to allow us to send signals to various remote speakers. This mixer has 3 auxiliary buses plus the headphone out. Very flexible routing. Very clean sound. The FX seem fine to me, I cannot claim an informed opinion, we only use a little reverb, but it is nice to have it. The main thing is the very flexible routing for a small format mixer. There are no individual channel inserts, but an external effects loop is possible by routing one or more individual channels out through one of the Aux outputs and returning by another channel. I do like it that each channel is individually routable to the main and / or the auxes.

Also it has three band EQ with sweepable mids on the main channels, this is a pretty nice EQ, although it's a little complex to get a handle on the use of the sweepable midrange controls.

Our old mixer was a little noisy. This one is very quiet. The reviews pointed to Allan and Heath as the top of the line, and we were tempted by their new ZED mini-mixer line, but the A&H mini-mixers have fewer outputs than this and fewer features in general. Soundcraft came in next in the reviews, above Mackie and Yamaha, so we went with Soundcraft because it appeared to have all the features we might want. Anyway, we are pretty happy with it. This was about the smallest format mixer we could find that had what we were looking for.

The take-a-break mute switch ( interval mute button) allows us to play our own music from an i-pod through our whole system with one button-push when we want to take a break, provided it is set up and ready to go. The USB charger on the console, which has nothing to do with anything except being handy if you want one, is obviously a very up to date thing for folks with lots of little I-type devices. (Later addendum: we are now using a Zoom A-3 processor which uses this USB power supply, saves one more wall-wart type 9-volt power supply.)

However, there is no 1/8th-inch stereo input jack, so an adapter to from 1/8th-inch to phono plugs is required for that input in order to use the I-thing for ambient music when we take a break.

All the channels have individual mute buttons - very handy!! - and Pre-Fade-Listen buttons.

Two channels on the Soundcraft have Hi-Z (i.e., high impedance) inputs at 968 K-ohms = 968,000 ohms. These are the correct impedance for the magnetic pickups on electric guitars but they are an order of magnitude low for piezo pickups, which require an impedance of around 10 M-ohms, or 10,000,000 ohms.

I could not be happier with this mixer

2017-07-24 Quick Update - I am still very pleased with this mini-desk however, no product is perfect. So far the biggest flaw is it is not shielded as well from wireless interference as well as my old Mackie. So you'll need to get those phones out of the room or turn them off while recording. I for reference, we do a lot of podcast audio/video production, and we are able to work around that issue. Depending on your application, this could be a deal breaker for some audiophiles. That said IMO the benefits and features of this board (at this price point) far outweigh minor short comings.

I was running a Mackie 1202XLZ3 and after 3 years of regular daily use, channel one blew out. After gettin and returning an Allen & Heath, I could not be happier with this mixer.

I had purchased and returned an Al&H ZEDi10x in favor of this unit, The Zed did not have enough XLR inputs. You will see people on here saying the preamps are not clean. That is such pseudo-audiophile-BS. To the naked ear I could not tell the difference between the Mic pre native to the Signature 10 and the one in the Allan & Heath. If you are looking for a review that makes up your mind for you. Buy it. At this price point you will not regret it.

First, the pros.

1. It is heavy. I had to use both hands to carry it to my desk, lol.
2. Even though mic gain with my particular microphones was low in general, sound quality was fantastic!

Now, the cons.
1. I barely even used the mixer, really. I didn't even do much, and now channel 1 barely has any gain. What's more, I hear a hum, when I have the gain up, a. And not only that, this noise, hum, buzzing, whatever, appars in my podcasts. So now, this channel is pretty much useless.

As far as value for money? I rated that 4 stars as well, because overall, it could be sturdier. All in all, other than the issues I listed, the Soundcraft Signature 12 MTK works fantastic.

Oh. And con number 2, which I almsost forgot, is that yes, even though I got this unit used like new, the knobs are very stiff. So just be aware, if you do get one, that everything is in great condition. I love how crystal clear the preamps are overall, however. They are not noisy to me at all, except the channel that I mentioned above, probably due to it dying on me. I also like that it is multitrack, as well. But if you want sturdiness as well as multitrack, I would look for something better.

I plugged in this beautifully sized and laid out, installation quality console and realised that I had just purchased a weapon that could take out a small planet.
Between having 5 aux busses and fully duplex USB I/O, I am now able to multitrack directly to my DAW and treat it like tape.
The quality of audio is clear and precise. The Lexicon FX are what you would expect from Lexicon.
I have nothing bad to say about the console. A fantastic purchase IMO.

What a pleasant little surprise this was!

I was eyeing an 8-mic interface/preamp for my studio and had shortlisted the Focusrite Clarett, Scarlett, RME Octamic and MOTU 896mk3. They would either be run standalone or pipe in via ADAT to my RME Babyface. I bought a Tascam US-2020 and had to return it because of buggy drivers. Lazily, I was going through Amazon for the Yamaha MG series and this popped up. After reading generally positive reviews and seeing a solid feature set I decided to buy this. At worst I could use it as an analog mixing board, and the price was half of what the Scarlett, the cheapest on my shortlist, would cost.

After using it now for a couple of days I am super happy with my purchase. I have saved a ton of money and have preamps that I believe are similar in quality to the Scarlett at least (the Clarett and RME are definitely in the next league) and have a lot of routing options. The drivers worked without any problems on 3 systems I tried them on, and latency is good. I will continue using this until I can afford to pick up the RME or decent outboard preamps. This unit will always have a place, I'm sure.

Pros:
- Great mic pre-amps, low noise and clean even at full gain
- Very pleasant-sounding EQ if you want to mix live
- The Lexicon effects are functional, if not cutting-edge
- Drivers seem very stable, and they promise class-compliance although I haven't tried it out
- Multi-track USB!
- Fairly straightforward to pick up and use
- Good space-saving design: power cord goes under the unit so you can push it all the way into a wall

Cons:
- Maxes out at 24-bit/48 kHz which is not an issue for me, but may be for some people
- No option to print EQ and effects when recording multi-track
- No per-channel phantom power (I have a ribbon mic and this precludes using it with condensers in the same session)
- Headphone-out volume is linked to master, so you can't turn down your speakers and monitor on earphones from the mixer, you'll need an external solution

Nit-picks:
- Doesn't come with a USB-B cable. Why?
- No inserts (nitpick for me, but may be critical for some people)
- No on/off switch
- No individual channel metering (quite an ask at this price)
- No ADAT IO (again, big ask)
- Lexicon Settings are volatile across reboots
- Some of the 2-state switches don't exactly have the best tactile feel, but seem solid enough

UPDATE, after 2 years (September 2020):
Cannot be happier, highly recommended.

This has replaced my RME without breaking a sweat. I had an issue with USB connectivity but the service center handled it and it's been fine ever since. I'm now upgrading to its big(?) brother, the UI24R today for its more advanced routing, but I will be holding on to this. It's a classic.

Great mixer and audio interface for the price, with few nitpicks

I am an audio hobbyist/enthusiast. I had shortlisted Yamaha 12XU and Soundcraft 12MTK, and I chose 12MTK because of added functionality that it could be used as an audio interface. I am glad I chose this thing!

I have always used decent equipment - Steinberg, Focusrite Scarlett, so I don't really know what a bad pre-amp is, 12MTK is quiet like the other great names too.

In my drawing room setup, I have now replaced Denon+KEF setup with 12MTK+JBL 308P Mk2. I use the RCA input on 12MTK to connect Tp-Link Bluetooth adaptor, plus for fun on weekends sometimes use Senn E835 for karaoke. I realize that I am probably using a low-end prosumer equipment for consumer purposes, but I'm loving it.

If you're a first timer like I was, its not so easy to understand the signal path. But after a few hours of reading and YT videos, and tons of experimenting, I am comfortable using it.

It has built-in effects, which are nice to have. 3 Auxes and 2 Groups are quite useful, EQs are simple but work great.

There are just 2 nitpicks I have:
1) There's a common 48V Phantom Power button instead on individual inputs. But this should be expected at this price-point, plus the fact that if you're doing live, you'll not be using condensor mics, and if you're doing studio, then you'll not be using dynamics, in short its hardly likely you'll be mixing them.
2) The faders are too wobbly to my liking. I was expecting very firm and tight faders. Its not an issue, just my expectation.

All in all, a great mixer+interface. I would recommend 12MTK as well as the brand.

Good mixer with nice features and effects but....

The issue I faced is that the Effects panel does not light up some times and during those times it is impossible to know which effect has been selected. From some other sources I learnt that I am not alone in facing this issue. Some people have been able to find a workaround by way of plugging in an LED lamp in the USB power socket. When the USB socket is engaged the Effects panel's internal lighting also comes up. However that did not work for me. After a couple of power-off power-on and a few taps on the effects menu plate, it worked. But the solution is random at best. I am not a pro-mixer and maybe i can live with it, but when they claim it to be a tour-grade mixer, then such malfunctions can prove costly on stage.
