Got it unboxed, propped it on the arm of my leather couch, plugged it into the wall across from it, and threw my nano in the dock. Powered it on with the remote and hit play.
A change of underwear later, and having hopped randomly through most of the songs on my nano, I was still picking my jaw up off of the floor.
Then I played with my 2011 model Macbook Pro (no instructions for the MacBooks on the quick start guide but it's easy to figure out - turn on bluetooth on the laptop, enable it on the dock, then pair it - no code even needed. Afterwards, go to sound settings on the computer and change output from laptop speakers to the "Sound Platform Stereo" option now visible). Had a few hiccups the first 10 seconds where it would start for a sec then stop and revert to my onboard speakers, but after disabling and enabling the bluetooth on the MBP it was solid after that.
Bass and Treble go from -3 to +3. Bass it makes a difference, Treble, not nearly as much - most of my songs I couldn't tell much difference between the various settings for Treble. The "U-Cubed" sound effect disables the bass/treble settings altogether. Normally I don't like the processing that speakers and such do to try to "expand" the sound. I have the higher end Samsung sound bar for my 55" 3DTV, and never use the effects there because it just makes things worse. Usually that's the results I've seen.Read more ›
Got it, unpacked it, and started playing with it. It gives you a one page 'quick set-up guide' - if you want the owners manual, you need to download it. I don't like this, it should be provided with the device. None-the-less, it does not take away from the quality or convenience of the product. I was able to set some FM presets, pair my T-mobile MyTouch 4g to it, and stream music via Bluetooth within 2 minutes of plugging in. I'm very much a sound snob, and with the sea of garbage iPod speaker docks out there, this is a step above. It's never going to be mistaken for a Bose SoundDock, but it sounds nice. Pleasant. Your not going to get noise complaints from neighbors, but then that isn't what this is for. For a bedroom nightstand - perfect. Office, kitchen, small garage, ...panic room, all great applications.
I bought this to listen to waves or rain music to help put me to sleep. For me, low volume performance was a big consideration. My kids both have the Kicker iK150 units, which sound really great, but the low volume performance sucks. "1" is the lowest and it is way to loud to go to sleep to on the Kicker. Soundfreaq has excellent graduation at very low levels, albeit with some amp hiss - but overall quite acceptable. I sync my Android 2.2 phone thru Salling MediaSync with select iTunes playlists, stream my music to the SoundFreaq, set my phone alarm through the DeskDock app, and use the phone timer to shut it off in an hour - all while charging so the battery isn't killed.
Nicely packaged inside the box too. The cardboard forms keep it nicely insulated from impact.Read more ›
