It's a shame no one else has reviewed this CD yet. This is a great debut (of sorts) by an up and coming artist. The Amazon description lists Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel and Ben Folds as influences.....among others. I would say all of these are evident in this CD. My favorite song is "You Don't Have To Believe Me", but the entire CD is very solid from beginning to end. It is a little on the short side (not sure of the actual length, but it seems to go by quickly when listening to it), however when a lot of artists make longer albums with a number of filler songs......it is nice to find someone who just put together a bunch of good songs without the filler. If you like Ben Folds, Jason Mraz and others in that genre of music.......along with a good amount of soul(that Stevie Wonder influence), lots of different instruments(all used very well) and some very well-written songs, Eric Hutchinson is for you! I actually like him more than Folds (Hutchinson is a better singer) and Mraz (Jason seems to be lacking something that I can't put my finger on....it may be that "soul" element--he has some good songs, but they get a little stale after awhile for me). I've listened to this CD a number of times and it is still spending a lot of time in my CD player.

A note about my review of 4 stars. I see TONS of 5 star reviews on Amazon, but there can't be THAT many 5 star albums out there. To me, 5 stars needs to be reserved for albums like Kind of Blue, Highway 61 Revisited, The White Album, etc.......albums that could at least be in the discussion for the best of the year if not the best of an era. This is a great CD, but I don't think it will be considered one of the best of the year......one of the best debuts? Maybe........

I think it's great when a new artist is able to release their first album on their own label which gives them the freedom to put out something they are proud of without pressure from the record execs. Eric's deal with Maverick fell through, so he recorded "Sounds Like This" on his own label "Let's Break Records." [...] In case you haven't heard, Daryl Hall has a great new web show from his home and features some great new artists, Eric being the most recent. Eric's music is infused with lots of soul (reminiscent of Stevie Wonder). Eric and Daryl perform a funky-soulful rendition of the Rufus & Chaka Khan hit "Tell Me Something Good" along with some of Eric's cuts off his album and a couple of Hall & Oates goodies. It makes me optimistic about today's music when I hear talented new artists like Eric that are putting out new stuff that has that "old school" sound! Looking forward to more from Eric!!

I cannot say enough awesome things about this album!! I have a wide variety of music tastes, but love Dave Matthews Band, Ben Folds 5, Barenaked Ladies, etc... and I find Eric Hutchinson's voice/songs to be amazing! I have Prime music, and can listen to this when I choose, but I love it so much that bought the album.

I first heard Eric while I was at a bar and heard "Rock & Roll" played on the speaker. I asked the bartender who this artist was, and he told me it was Eric Hitchinson. As soon as I got home, I immediately downloaded the entire album, and am so glad I did. Personally, I think most modern music is complete garbage. Gone are the days of girl groups and Motown - that's when music was MUSIC. But Eric is one of the few artists whose album never gets wiped from my MP3 player. One of the things that stands out with Eric is his use of horns - again, something gone from most modern music that needs more attention (think Frankie Valli and the Four Season, Ides of March, Dionne Warwick, etc.). But he's bringing back this classic sound that you just don't get anymore. Don't get me wrong - he's not duplicating these artists, but instead reinventing modern music while paying homage to the Golden Age of music.

Tracks 5, 7, and 8 are probably my favorite on this album.

Never heard of Eric previously and it was recommended based on my other musical choices. Such a full and thoughtful compilation of stories and musical exploration. I would highly recommend this cd to anyone who enjoys solid singer/songwriters.

I had never heard of Eric Hutchinson, but I am always looking at new artists and sounds--so when I saw this on Amazon I gave it a listen. Very glad I bought this CD--it is an easy listen, and all the songs are good. Some are excellent, in fact--I especially like "Outside Villanova", "Rock & Roll" & "Back to Where I was". He can sound a little like Jason Mraz, which isn't a bad thing, really. There is a nice incorporation of instruments in many of the tunes, and the melodies are very strong and catchy. I find I will put this CD on and listen all the way through, repeatedly. What more can you ask for?

I'm not a music critic, I just like this album, the live version. He's an excellent songwriter and upbeat performer. It's not like this is a manufactured product where I could comment on it's use or design. You listen to it, you like it or not. Simple. Hey Amazon, have a stars-only option or no more reviews from me!

Music an old person and someone a contemporary of this young musician can like besides. I like being able to sing along, and this has great songs to sing to. An individual, not reminiscent of other musicians performing today, to me.
