I thought the banana plugs would be an upgrade to the speaker system however they have been more trouble than they are worth. The cost is great, however, they are difficult to get set up. Using 16 gauge wire it was difficult to screw the two pieces together to get a good connection. Also I was planning on hiding the wires for the surround sound however with the plugs in the stick out so they won't fit flush with the wall. Also, plugging them into the back of the receiver they force you to lose about two inches of space, instead of pushing the receiver back. Not a big deal if its in a cabinet but if you're short on space, not the way to go. However, it does make moving speakers a lot easier that in the past.
