The book is old but the information is comprehensive and well presented
This is not a text on quantum mechanics, exotic particle physics, cosmology, or the like. It covers basic nuclear physics and engineering to educate the reader to understand what is being glossed over by others e.g. a discussion of packing fraction is useful to know why iron in supernovas is critical
Like the Bible (or similar scriptures), it had a purpose -- to preserve insights so their value is not overlooked and lost to succeeding generations. It provides a structured foundation for people who must know history to avoid repeating its mistakes - and still, there were many. [SL1, TMI, Chernobyl, etc. ]
It is a book that is worth the price.
After the Service, I joined a Start-up Course Development Group at Digital Equipment Corporation (1974) where I heard and met Grace Hopper (a retired Navy Admiral who developed COBOL). She offered amusing & interesting anecdotal information about problems & solutions while developing various versions of COBOL.
I asked whether she knew of anything comparable to Glasstone's sourcebook to facilitate the immense changes that were occurring in the computer industry. In short, the answer was no, but it was interesting.
Had we done so (2019 hindsight), we might have avoided the national damage caused by hackers who were able to exploit poorly developed proprietary operating systems and extract priceless information for our adversaries.
Our biggest adversary was ourselves -- and our greed.
