also this this bed seemed much more study which it is, i was able to but this together alone in about 3-4hours. was not hard at all, but then again i have experience in building all my own furniture. i like the color its a dark brown, i think what bothers me is the "wood" looking stuff i don't know what its called well if you not very careful during assembly it can peel off very easily at the corner and edges, nothing that cant be fix w/ a dab of glue if it bothers you that much, i guess that's why a touch up marker was included.
also i wished the side rails for the drawers were metal instead of plastic. i don't know if that will cause problems in the future, I'm sure if it was metal the slide Resistance would be a lot easier an smooth but again just a minor thing that i can over look. the handles to the bed are metal and very sharp and i caught my foot on it and it sure hurt so you gotta watch that, or easily replace them, i kept them on for now.
other than that I'm very pleased with the bed its everything i wanted, seems strong enough to handle my new memory foam mattress and me and one other person.for the price its a well worth spent buck, if you expecting perfection and high quality this isn't for you. good for a average making, person looking for a strong bed for a reasonable price.oh and shipping was perfect. I'm happy and would recommend it. :)South Shore Furniture Cakao Collection Full Mates Bed, Chocolate
The beds are a little shorter than we expected - the dimensions in the bed description are accurate, we just didn't pay attention. Actually the low height is good for us since we bought these for preschoolers.
The drawer handles stick out and have caused a few scratches/bruises so we might replace them with something rounder. These beds might not last into high school, but we should at least make it through elementary school.
We would definitely choose them again.
Problem #1) Odds are, this bed will arrive damaged. Its a heavy chunk of several particle boards and awkward to carry. Hardly surprising then, that the first one I ordered was damaged en route. Fortunately, the damage was spotted before it was delivered, so it never made it to my house. If it had been delivered (like it was to some others whose reviews I read), I'm not exactly sure how I would have repackaged it, had it picked up and returned. Its too heavy for one person to lift and maneuver - and I guess that includes the delivery people. I ordered the bed again, and this time it arrived without any noticeable damage. 50% ain't bad!
Problem #2) Shoddy construction & annoying assembly quirks. The little handles/pulls on the drawers are sharp and have scraped my feet several times in the week I've used it. Lots of the holes and contact points for the various pieces don't line up, so you have to force them into place. While I have problems with Ikea, they spend more time making their products easy to assemble at home. Several screws on this bed required a "robertson" (square head) screw driver. I have many tools, but not one of these. What's wrong with a phillps or flathead? Dumb. Also, the directions read backwards, from the bottom of each page to the top. Really?
So it took me 3 hours to assemble this bed, without Problem #3)...
Problem #3) Missing parts. There were several missing screws, dowels, and whatnot. This would seem to be a small issue, but the bed can't be assembled without them. I had to make a separate trip to the hardware store and then file down some wooden dowels so they would fit the holes.Read more ›
The real reason I wanted to write this review (and I wish I had known before purchasing) is that the "knobs" on the drawers are perhaps the worst design in the history of bad design. They stick out from the bed and have sharp edges, very very sharp edges. My shins are covered in bruises and cuts from bumping into the handles. I actually have a scar on my leg. I can't understand who thought it would be a good idea to put a sharp metal object that sticks out a good two inches from the side of the bed. I had to remove them and buy smaller, round knobs that don't have sharp edges and since installing them I haven't bruised myself once. You can see the "knobs" in the pictures for the dresser and nightstand more clearly, because the ones shown in the photo are not the ones on the actual bed.
Despite the drawers, I love this bed and am very happy with it. It's very sturdy and seems well-constructed despite not being made from solid wood. There's 2 drawers on each side of the bed so it can't be against a wall.

nice bed, but the base for the bed is very light, if kids start jumping frequently, base will break into two.Published 16 months ago by phani
