Some people also complained that the directions were hard to follow. I have to dissagree. The instructions were clear. The only thing I might change would be better pictures of the items as there are a LOT of pieces to count through before you start. Now while it was easy to follow the instructions and easy to put together, it was VERY time consuming. I think there were 23 steps in total and tons of screws, plastic pieces... I put it together myself and while I didn't keep track of how long it took, I would guess 3-4 hrs. That is a pretty long time for a single piece of furniture which might be why some people complained. Also, some of the connection pieces are plastic, so I will be careful when I move it.
Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. It is just what I needed and at the right price.
This is packaged fairly well but we still had one piece arrive damaged. I called the company and they immediately issued an order for replacement parts at no cost. Customer service was very friendly and helpful. The only reason this isn't getting 5-stars is because it takes 2 weeks for any replacement parts to arrive. However, we were fortunate that it was the decorative piece at the bottom so we didn't have to wait to put the rest of the furniture together
As most people have said, this piece is super cute and looks great. There were some complaints of this piece being too small. I don't understand those reviews as the dimensions are clearly given on the sample images of the chest and should be easily available for customers to know up-front. I think the smaller look is perfect for a child's room and we have a smaller room so I actually appreciate the smaller height. Maybe you should get out a tape measure and make sure you like how much space it will take up before you buy (hint, hint)!
Wow, not hard at all! I'm the pregnant one and I was able to set up 95% of this on my own. The only thing I needed my husband to do was hammer in the hinges in door... and he thought this was very easy. I don't know if people just don't have a lot of experience reading directions or diagrams but I thought this set-up was ridiculously easy. It look me a few hours by myself (2-3). Would have taken less than 2 hours if my husband had been home when I was setting most of it up.
Ok, this is self-assemble furniture. What were you expecting? High quality, hand-crafted wood pieces? These are standard compressed wood pieces. Overall I think the quality fits the price well. My only complaint was the little decorative wood piece that fits into the swinging door is only attached on with an adhesive strip and it comes off easily... but that's nothing a little gorilla glue couldn't fix quickly. Also, the stability of the piece is decent; it's not solid wood but it's not wobbly either. I think the stability is appropriate for the size of the piece and quality of self-assembly furniture.
There were multiple complaints about the door leaving a crack because it isn't quite wide enough to cover the whole left side. Personally, I don't think I would have even noticed this if I hadn't read about it in so many reviews. The crack is extremely minor (1/4" max). Guess what, I doubt anyone will notice and it doesn't bother me at all. Like I said, the only reason I noticed was because I was looking for it. It actually looks like it was designed that way so the door hits the little rubber bumpers when it closes instead of the center wood piece. I think that is a better engineering design than having it constantly bang into the wood.
Overall I'm very happy with this piece of furniture and I am seriously perplexed by all the negative reviews. It's a good piece of self-assemble furniture.
The unit arrived yesterday. It was delivered sooner than expected. The box was very heavy, make no mistake about that. I could barely slide it into our house, having no chance of lifting it. The corners of the box were all beat up, presumably due to the aforementioned weight (Poor UPS delivery person!), but the contents are very nicely packed inside with about a 6 inch piece of foam at each end protecting those corners from damaging the unit.
The pieces are very nicely marked. Ive assembled lots of furniture and usually the labels on are some items, hard to read, or just confusing in general. Not with this unit. Each item was very clearly marked. I took all pieces out of the box and sat them with their numbers facing me. This made assembly really quite simple.
I assembled the unit myself, and yes I am the pregnant one, in a little under 2 hours. It really wasnt bad at all. I used a hammer, a rubber mallet and a phillips screwdriver. Thats all you need.
The unit is what you expect for this price, it has a cardboard back (thick, but still cardboard) and the door doesnt have a formal closure system. Mine seems so close quite securely but there is no latch.
I am very happy with the unit. Ive taken out the top shelf on the left side and added a bar so I can hang some clothes, this works quite well. The 'baby' hangers fit in here very easily.
This dresser took approx. 3 hours to put together. The directions were pretty good, but be careful about the parts - don't rush - read carefully. Once all of the things are put in their proper place it went together very quickly and one fairly strong person can do this alone. We went ahead and put two nails into the backing in the fixed shelves even though it didn't say to do it - it makes the backing less flappy and there are enough nails for the rest - we have some of these nails on hand anyway.
Over all I am happy with this product. The espresso color is a beautiful rich dark brown.
