Anyone who loves cats, southern food and is a good storyteller will automatically get a five star rating. The Southern Comfort Food Cookbook is exactly that. The author Eric Wilder has intertwined southern recipes, southern stories, and is one of his stories relates a touching story about his cats. This is my kind of cookbook.

Along the way you will find some of the following recipes in his cookbook:

Joy's Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake with Mocha Butter Frosting
Anne's Cheese Grits Casserole
Grandma Dale's Chicken and Dumplings

I loved reading the story Barn Kittens and Backyard Spirits --- a story.

Overall, this is a delightful book.

Highly recommend.

I like the style of this book. The recipes are interesting and give you a sense of the cuisine of this part of our country. Some are not necessarily easy, but the effort is worth it. Honestly, not everyone will love every recipe because the recipes are true to their roots. For example, not everyone is a fan of okra, a definitely acquired taste if you didn't grow up with it in your diet.

The book is well organized and well written. It makes a good addition to any cook's secret stash when you're looking for something different.

I'd give it 6 stars if they add more recipes to the next edition.

Living in Australia and hearing so much about “good old authentic Southern comfort food” I thought I would purchase a cookbook based just on that for those special occasions in need of comfort from delicious food. I have since attempted a few of the recipes, which were extremely yummy as it’s like nothing we have back home. I also enjoyed the storytelling of southern tales added into the cookbook, different and interesting, although once or twice I was a little disappointed I didn’t get the recipe at the end

These are not complicated fussy recipes, but the book contains tastes familiar to those of us who were lucky enough to be born SOUTH OF THE MASON DIXON LINE... with a east Texas twist to Cajun flavors.

Loved this recipe book. Great recipes but what makes it even better are the personal stories behind many of the recipes interspersed throughout the book. This book is just as much a celebration of cherished family memories as it is a cookbook.

It brough back memories of summer weekends and holidays spent on my Auntie B's farm. The simple delicious food she cooked and the techniques she handed down. Tomorrow I'll be trying a recipe or two from here but tonight I'll be making Bea's Chicken and noodles with a smile on my face, a tear in my eye and love in my heart.

I think that the author will agree with me that the secret ingredient to all the best recipes is love. Thanks for such a smile inducing collection of recipes and stories. I feel like I was invited to Sunday dinner at the author's house and was honored to meet all his relatives and loved ones after reading this book.

This book is interesting since it contains stories and recipes. However it is frustrating when you think you are going to get a recipe and it is a "story"about a recipe grandma used to make but they can't recall the exact ingredients. They sure remember what a good cook she was though and that's a good thing. Just wish they knew her ingredients.
