Avoid this like the plague! I wish I could give it *zero* stars! We spent many hours figuring out why a remote camera extension cord made with this would not work. We contacted the camera manufacturer to check plug sizes. We researched different plugs. (The camera used an unusual size barrel plug and barrel plugs in general can be tricky in general to test if good contact is being made.) We finally started testing the wire along the entire 50 feet of it. (Up to this point we'd only pulled the wire ends from the plastic packaging so it wouldn't be a tangled mess.) Lo and behold when you flexed the wire in a certain area it would short. We opened up the brown plastic coating on the wire and clearly both the red and white wires had cracks in the insulation. Who ever heard of brand new, still in the packaging, wire having a short? I will never buy this brand of wire again.
(Disclosure, I bought this at the local Home Depot because I wanted it faster than even Amazon could deliver. Lesson re-learned: don't undervalue Amazon customer service.)

I purchased two 50 ft rolls. I used them on my new tankless water heater for the remote controls. As other reviewers have stated some of the rolls are defective. One of the rolls would not work. I expected 12 volts DC and it was showing less than one volt. The second roll worked fine. Should have tested the wire before running.

50 feet is nice to have, and it is on a spool making it easy to store and use. But my white wire kept breaking. It broke twice on the ends. Once on each end actually. Once after I got it spliced into the thermostat leads on my RV furnace. So I had to get the crimp tube off of the furnace lead and redo them. The on the other end when I went to bend the end around to connect it to the thermostat. It just snapped off. That one wasn't nearly as big of a deal, just strip a little more and bend it. However I got this to replace the original broken wire that runs though the walls of my RV. This one runs outside the wall so if it does break again it will be really easy to replace, but I would prefer it doesn't. makes me kind of nervous. I better keep it in the trailer in case it does break while we are camping, I will have wire to replace it with.

Recently used this wire to extend existing thermostat wiring in my house to move a hallway thermostat into a bedroom. It was easy to work with and sturdy enough to stand up to being pulled through a few tight spots. Very pleased with this wire. Amazon's price was lower than the Lowe's and Home Depot nearby to me.

The wire is great as long as you don't have to use a staple gun to hold it to the ceiling because it will tear threw the casing and cause the wires to short together. The outter case needs to be made of a stronger material.

This is perfect for front door bell wiring applications for which it was purchased. The jacket can survive the pull through various mediums and 18ga is plenty for the low voltage used in these applications

This wire is a bit thin for 18-gauge wire. It's actually closer to 19-gauge, hence only three stars.

Gauge aside, it's fine for most low-voltage applications. The best thing about this wire is that it is two conductor wire (that's what the "/2" means after the gauge number), which is important because many low voltage wires are only single conductor. If you're wiring something like a doorbell that needs two connections, check this in the item description or you may wind up fishing two separate wires.
