Editorial Reviews

2012 collection from the Britpop quintet. Featuring anthemic indie hits such as 'Ruby', 'I Predict a Riot' and 'Everyday I Love You Less and Less', this collection is the perfect reminder of the band's ability to blend loud, crunching guitars with undeniably catchy pop hooks. 16 tracks.

Kaiser Chiefs' "SOUVENIR" is a comprehensive "best of" from 2004-2012, and it's fantastic!! All the biggest hits are here!
Kaiser Chiefs' are probably one of the best "festival" bands in England & Europe....it's easy to hear why. All the songs are great.

A friend of mine actually recommended them to me (which I "blew off" for about a year)! I think I had them confused with Kings of Leon (who I don't like). But, I did return, eventually & just LOVE this CD! I knew more of the songs I had originally thought...and, among my favorites are "I Predict A Riot", "Ruby", "Kinda Girl You Are" and "Everyday I Love You Less & Less".

Kaiser Chief's' are a crowd-pleaser & "SOUVENIR" should please the most discerning rock afficianado!!! I highly recommend it for Kaiser Chief's new fans, and long-time fans, alike!!!!

Can't believe it has been that long since I first discovered the music of the Kaiser Chiefs at a multi band outdoor concert with my then young children. They are adults now and still love the Kaiser Chiefs, as they still evoke feelings of happiness when we listen to their music. This is also one of those rare bands that sounds as good or better live.

In the NME, frontman Ricky Wilson recently acquiesced to KC being a 'singles band.'
"People like to refer to us as a singles band and I guess we are a singles band. It's not something we set out to do. We wanted to make albums, but people don't think of us that way. Albums these days seem to adverts for singles with some tracks to bulk them out. It used to be the other way round."

It's not so bad, really. The Smiths had plenty of singles, so did The Jam, so did Blur, so did Oasis, so he is at least in good company. This is aimed at folks who either don't know the band, or haven't been keeping up for the entire time.
So what do you get? Well, you get:

'Oh My God'
'I Predict A Riot'
'Every Day I Love You Less and Less'
'Modern Way'
'You Can Have It All'
from the debut album Employment
'Ruby'
'Everything Is Average Nowadays'
'The Angry Mob'
'Love's Not A Competition (But I'm Winning)'
from the sophomore slump album Yours Truly, Angry Mob
'Never Miss A Beat'
'Good Days Bad Days'
from the underrated third album Off With Their Heads
'Little Shocks'
'Man On Mars'
'Kinda Girl You Are'
from the most recent new-wave/post-punk effort The Future Is Medieval
'On The Run'
from the USA version of The Future Is Medieval ('Start The Revolution Without Me.')
and 'Listen To Your Head' which is the latest single.

There are definitely some album tracks that are at least as good if not better than the weaker singles here, so I wouldn't call this a "Greatest Hits." But it's definitely something to wet the whistle of the uninitiated, or expand the range of the folks who remember I Predict A Riot.

Kaiser Chiefs stormed onto the music scene back in 2004-5 with their outstanding debut album "Employment" and the correlating monster hit "I Predict a Riot" (are you humming it on your head right now?). I recently read somewhere that singer-songwriter Ricky Wilson nows admits that Kaiser Chiefs really is a singles band, much more than they ever were an album band. How right he is. Eight years into the band's career, now comes this collection.

"Souvenir: Singles 2004-1012" (16 tracks; 58 min.) brings all 15 of the band's singles in this 8 year period, plus one new track ("Listen To Your Head"). Even though the band's albums have slowly but steadily gone downhill since "Employment" (leading up to that bizarre UK/US split release of "The Future Is Medieval"/"Start the Revolution Without Me"), each album did have several great-to-outstanding singles. But isn't it telling that "Employment" produced no less than 5 singles (Oh My God; I Predict A riot; Every Day I Love You Less and Less; Modern Way; You Can Have It All), more than the other 3 albums ("Yours Truly Angry Bob", "Off With Their Heads" and "Future Is Medieval/Start the Revolution"). My biggest gripe is that regretfully this collection is not sequenced chronologically, and hence we go all over the place, for example from the new track which appears in the middle of the album for no particular reason, straight into "Every Day I Love You Less and Less" from the first album, and from there then into "Little Shocks" from the last album. Wow, it just makes for a dizzying listen at times.
