HOW IT WORKS:
So this one doesn't make mist in the ultrasonic method. It simply has a little cotton pad that you drop a few or a lot of drops on and a little fan blows through it to spread the scent. One drawback from that is that you have to buy replacement cotton pads I'll keep using the 3 that came with it until... I dunno I feel like buying more I guess.
Where I tried it:
I tried it by my bed initially just for fun because I do have a QUOOZ diffuser to move more scent around my 350sq ft studio condo. This one is too bright for me at least for bedroom use. I need to sleep in pitch black. The blue light is very bright in the dark. so nope couldn't use it there. There's also no timer so the light is on until you push it off. It does run silently though if you don't mind the light.
I tried it in my car. I have a bunch of car adapters so I plugged it into a USB port and at night it made a cool neon blue light glow from the passenger footwell. That was cool/pretty but the smell didn't seem to get around as well. I don't know if the air filter and vents in my car kept the scent away from me. Upon getting in after being out of the car with it running, I did smell a hint of it but not while I was in it. It may help mediate cat/dog smells if you have pets in your car often but I couldn't tell you for sure.
I finally tried it where I think I'll keep it, in my cubicle at work. Low 4 foot walls between coworkers and myself, it's not going to make a lot of scent to bother other people. Leaving my area and coming back to my desk I couldn't smell it until I was near my desk. We'll have to get a verdict from coworkers tomorrow, I'm wondering if they'll even ask. (I'll update if they complain lol)
Overall Thoughts:
The drops do dissipate rather quickly which I found a LITTLE disappointing. I have a woodsy mix of juniper, orange, cedar, fir that I mixed and put about 6 drops on the pad and it doesn't last very long. Under an hour and all that came through still was the orange if I stuck my nose near the diffuser. So you're mixture will make a difference. Oils do dry up/evaporate at different speeds so keep that in mind......
This diffuser is not going to saturate the air very much (but for what it is you can't expect that)
Besides my little homemade mix, I'm using an aura cacia bergamot that I'm in love with. Using that I get 1-2 hours of scent within about a 6 foot radius... It'll just be a hint if you use 4-6 drops like I have. So that's perfect for me.
Again different oils will have different outcomes. I have found that I'm sensitive to the strong smell of Ylang ylang so one or two drops of that goes further than say cedarwood which is more subtle.
Overall I like the diffuser for what it is intended. It's nearly as personal as a piece of oil jewlery that you would wear. It's a personal diffuser more than a room diffuser. To reiterate I would not but if if you need a diffuser running in pitch black dark for sleep. You will not be able to sleep with the light on it's very bright. I considered trying to clip a wire to turn the light off but I'd rather not ruin the device.
Happy diffusing!
What attracted me the most to this particular one, is that I could take it traveling, without the mess of the liquid essential oils and water routine. I can plug this into my USB/AC plug adapter and can use this anywhere there is a 110 electrical current outlet. Not only that, but I can also plug it into my computer while working, and it does a great job of infusing my 11x12 foot room with the aromatherapy oils I am using.
Years ago, I had purchased a color changing mini fountain to sit on my husband's work desk. While it ran, he could listen to the sound of the water, and we had a variety of aromatherapy oils he could use depending on his mood and if he needed to de-stress or not. That became so complicated to change out the water each time he wanted a different fragrance that he gave up on it.
The Aromafier only needs to have the absorbent pads changed out and we're up and running. Instead of purchasing more absorbent pads, I took the round cleaning pads for use with cleansing faces or getting nail polish off with, cut out a hole in the middle to fit into the Aromafier, and added my fragrances. Each is stored in its separate little plastic bag and labeled with the fragrance oil and what it is good for. These have worked out great. So far we've gone through about 6 different fragrances to determine which we like best and for what. For instance, when it's a high stress work day, out comes the lavender. Within a couple of minutes, the smell of lavender is working through our olfactory senses and we find ourselves more calm almost immediately.
I have used both essential oils and aromatherapy oils in this little guy. Obviously it takes more drops of aromatherapy oils to disperse than essential oils. Both work great on those little pads. I have noticed that on days with high humidity, the Aromafier will have some condensation built up inside. I just wiped with a tissue and haven't had any issues.
The fan is audible, but quiet. Nothing that keeps me awake at night when I run the Aromafier. It has a bright blue light that shines when it is on. That can be annoying at night. It disturbed my husband, and we had to move it to make it less visible.
Pros: Love the versatility of this diffuser. It's small and portable. Can use aromatherapy oils and essential oils. Great for travel. Overall, a great product.
Cons: Sometimes condensation builds up inside near the pad, but doesn't stop the unit from working.
