Waaaay back in the day this was a really classic arcade shooter from SEGAs vast library of arcade games. Space Harrier was an interesting one from that group. It was sort of like an arcade shoot'em up combined with that of an arcade racing game also from SEGA. You are not only scored on how long you can survive each level and how far you get like in a racing game, but also on the different elements and enemies you destroy on the screen. This console-only sequel was really great because it really paid huuuuge homage to the original.
The vibrant colors, stage environments, odd enemies, and also fast gameplay is what made Space Harrier really stand out from the other game cabinets in the arcades, and that is all seen here in a big way. Also I am not sure if this was suppose to be part of the games unorthodox nature or was just a glitch, if you hold A,B, or C in the beginning it will take you to the options screen where you can customize this cool game even further, something else and new that added to the Space Harrier series. Even though the game is fairly old it plays like its brand new!!!!! The controls are extremely responsive, the game never lags, and being a cool cartridge it never has any long loading times between levels or restarts.
Overall its a great game for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, and with its new settings it has even more replay value than its original.
