- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2016This is a fantastic book. If you grew up in the greater Seattle area like I did (Bellevue), the Space Needle is an icon that was always there in the background through every part of your life. This deep look into its design, construction, creation and more is absolutely fascinating! Loaded with rare pictures, insights from the men who built it and more. I cant rave enough about it!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2015A great comprehensive look at the fair of 1962 the covers both the fair itself as well as construction of the space needle, with probably more detail that you care for LOL. But all in all a very entertaining book

- Reviewed in the United States on June 5, 2014Did not give me the necessary information to complete a research paper I was preparing for a class. The book lacked a lot of necessary factual information.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2013There's a place for "coffee table" books. It's called a coffee table.
This one, billed as such, meets most of the criteria. It's heavy (for a paperback), colorful, contains the requisite glossy pages of beautiful photographs, artists' sketches, architectural renderings, dreamers' doodles, political cartoons, and the like. But Space Needle: The Spirit of Seattle is much more than a handsome or diverting book. It is an indispensable history of the darling of Seattle's skyline: how it came to be. The people, politics, public debate, financing, backroom deals..all diligently researched and presented, in lively, insightful and informative fashion by the region's preeminent chronicler of matters that matter here in "Pugetopolis."
If you live in Seattle, think about Seattle, love or cuss its football team's "12th Man" caterwauling or any other unique cultural phenomena, read Knute "Skip" Berger's Space Needle. You'll get a deep insight into the forces that drove the city in the fifties and sixties, and that account for much of its character today.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2013Found this book while visiting the Needle back in May 2012. The book is covered in visuals of how the Needle was going to be built; its appearance over the years; and its impact on culture.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2013This book provides a candid and fun look at the events leading up to the construction of the Seattle Space Needle. Includes specific information about the size and time of construction. Good research book.
