This is not heavy sci-fi that will force you to refresh your forgotten Sci lessons. Instead, this is more about humor and memorable characters.
If you want something to expand your scientific knowledge, this is NOT the book for you. If you want to laugh out loud and cheer on characters that you quickly come to love, then this IS the book for you.
Space Rogues is a good first door opening into a new universe that has much potential. This is a light heart adventure, it is not a preachy deep or profound story, nor some masked political statement. This is simply a story to be enjoyed. The main character Wil Calder is fun, perhaps a bit of a parallel to Guardians of the Galaxy, but from my own writing experience. This was likely started and conceptualized before that film came out.
This book sets the stage up for a saga, and I look forward to seeing the next book release and getting a number of questions answer. And darn it, that kick but feline secretary/guard so needs to join the crew of the "Ghost".
John Wilker's writing still has some maturing to do, but I've read many novels that were far less fun and engrossing than John Wilker's first venture. So he is off to a very good start, and I think many sci-fi fans will enjoy this opening entry.
