The contents of this received assortment are as listed in the Amazon description of 23 Nov 2015. Over time these kits have varied in composition. My evaluation of what I received is that all the white items fit each other while the black posts are quite variable, many not fitting the others, nor the black nuts and screws, very well. It is good that the black nuts and 5mm long black screws fit the white items, (as well as fit each other). This is important because the screws with the white collection are 20 mm long, and thus ill-suited for use with the white posts. There are 60 black screws, and 60 black nuts, meaning plenty enough for most of the posts in the white collection. I like the fact that the white posts include female-female as well as male-female varieties. The black posts are all male-female. I am just writing off the black posts as of little use, and consider that the remaining items are a bargain. All I have immediate use for are 2 female-female posts and 4 black screws. I would have been willing to pay the full price of the kit even if it were to consist of those 6 items alone. Thus all the remaining items are free as far as I am concerned. If absolutely necessary, I may be able to find some good items among the black posts.
It has been suggested that 4-40 (English) screws and nuts are an acceptable fit to these M3 x 0.5 items. Yes, but it is quite a forced fit, possible only because nylon is deformable. The 4-40 screws are thinner than the M3 screws, and have a much coarser pitch, near 1.6/mm instead of 0.5/mm. I am glad I will not have to take this route. I wondered why the black posts are such a poor fit, and guessed that maybe the black screw ends on the posts were too large a diameter. I put my Vernier calipers to use and found that the black screw ends were actually of smaller diameter (2.80 mm) than those of the white posts. What seems to be true is that the black threads are not as deep as they should be, not that the screws are oversize.
