Pirates, slavers, and deviants!

If you are reading this, you have either read the first book and you can’t wait to see what comes next or you haven’t read the first book and you are trying to see if this series is worth your investment. Either way you won’t be disappointed. Read the first book and you’ll be back here. Buy this book, read it and you’ll want to read the first book and then read this one again.
Want to know why kids get more of their birthday wishes granted than do adults? Want to know about gravity grudge matches with orbital guards (“don’t call it Quidditch. Nobody reads earth lit anymore. Those books don’t make any sense.”) You will have to read this book to find out.
This branch of Ginger Booth story telling is reaching new heights. I even took a vacation day to finish this one.

Can't say enough about this new series! Once humans have made their home planet uninhabitable, a few have managed to reach new, only barely habitable worlds in a new star system. Each moon, space station, or planet presents unique challenges and leads to different adaptations among isolated populations. Hints that somehow their descendants do make it eventually are given through snippets of a far future history; these stories are about the forgotten human individuals, and the quirks of chance, that will make such a future history possible. I loved the first book (Skyship Thrive) and this second book is an order of magnitude even better, more complex, and more adventurous. Humor, worldbuilding, science, invention, danger, subversion, adventure, characters (and character development), sense of wonder - this series has it all, in a package so much fun and so highly original it surprises even this veteran space opera reader. Can't wait to see where this will lead next, in Book 3.

This is a more nuanced writing that pulls you in and has you living with your favorite characters, giving yourself head slaps when they make mistakes, cheering when they win. If you are working, read this on the weekend, you will wantbto stay up until you are done. Great writing.

Sass and the crew of the Thrive can't seem to stay out of trouble, but still manage to land on their feet, or their butts. More new characters involved in situations that are to say the least interesting. If you like good science fiction and fast paced stories, this is the series for you. i read them all in a week!
