This heavy die cast construction spaetzle maker from Westmark is perfect for making rather long strands of spaetzle which are much more like noodles than dumplings. Measuring 16 inches long with a 3 inch diameter and a 3.5 inch deep container this spaetzle maker works like a potato ricer3A the hinged upper handle with its attached circular press forces dough through the perforations in the bottom of the container. The noodles produced are very thin and elegant. To make short noodles, rest the dough filled press above the boiling water and squeeze the handles together - for longer noodles hold it about 5 inches above the water. Cooked potatoes, vegetables, and fruits could also be pureed with this press. The Classic spaetzle maker makes round noodles while the Special spaetzle maker makes s shaped flat noodles. Made in Germany.

Three years after moving over to the US I finally made the decision to buy a Spätzle press. After all, packaged Spätzle cannot compete with home made Spätzle. I decided to go with a more pricey product because it was the most similar to what I had when I lived in Germany and I was not disappointed. The build seems sturdy and solid so I expect to be able to use this press until I won't be able to physically eat Spätzle anymore. If you are not familiar with the process of making Spätzle, the instructions comes with a basic recipe for Spätzle in multiple languages including English and German. If you understand German, you will find some more recipes, e.g. for "Kässpätzle".

I definitely recommend this Spätzle press.

That was terribly disappointing. When I saw this item, which could be used for spaetzle or potatoes, I took a good look at it. It appeared to be heavy duty and did not have a band which is susceptible to breakage. I read the reviews and they were all positive, so I ordered it. It is a dream! Easy to use, formidable so breakage will not be a problem, and (bonus) it has notches on the front side so you may rest it on a pan and utilize the utensil with ease!

This Spaetzle maker is amazing. Very sturdy and hefty. It makes perfect thin spaetzle every time. I have used it for Goulash, swedish meatballs, and just to make delicious spaetzle sides. I also use mine as a vegetable press. If I had any complaints (and this pretty much goes for any spaetzle makers) I just wish the handles were longer for more leverage... you will get a workout with a stiff dough... I guess this is why no one talks back to Oma...

Bought this to replace a German made spaetzle press that had interchangeable inserts - one for ricing potatoes and another with less regular holes that added the roughness and irregular shape you would expect of hand-made spaetzle so having this press with only one pattern of holes didn’t seem like it would work but it did, very well and very easily. It’s also really sturdy so I don’t think it will break Ike the one it replaces. Excellent.

I love this spaetzle maker! :) It makes both excellent spaetzle and fantastic mashed potatoes!

This thing is nice and sturdy, and very well-made. It's a solid piece of equipment.

The pin that holds it together comes out easily so you can take the two halves apart to make cleaning it easier. The metal has some sort of coating on it that makes cleanup easier as well.

All in all, a very good buy. I think of what a pain it was to make spaetzle with a colander before--this is a breeze by comparison! (And don't get me started on the board method. It's impressive to see a skilled cook do it, but I'm too clumsy for that.) This device also makes nicely-textured mashed potatoes. (I'll be getting rid of my old potato ricer now, which seems to waste a lot of potato and which is a bear to clean.)

Es muss zwar viel Druck aufgewendet werden, aber es funktioniert wunderbar. Zuvor hatten wir andere Produkte ausprobiert, bei denen aber das Eis leider noch im behälter an den Seiten hochquoll.
Bei dieser Presse ist es nur ganz minimal, was zu verkraften ist.

Fazit: Wer nicht all zu schwach ist, kann diese Presse ohne Bedenken für Spaghettieis kaufen 🙂

Great for quick gluten free noodles/spaghetti

Good quality and works well even for gluten free noodles but the dough has to be softer than dough intended for rolling, cutting and drying - unless you happen to be a world champion strong man. I just added slightly more water to my usual gluten free recipe (chick pea flour, tapioca flour and eggs whizzed up in the magimix) which didn't affect the taste. I bought the dishwasher friendly version but it is really easy to clean anyway so long as you put it into water immediately after use - don't let the dough dry in the holes or you will have to spend time poking it out. Also best not to fill more than half full otherwise the pasta gets progressively thinner and (surprisingly) rather too long - it grows more than you would think by looking at it. Two 'half' measures seems to make enough noodles for 3 people to go with something like a Chinese meal but probably not enough for 3 for spaghetti bolognese - but then we are all a bit greedy in our house. One word of warning - don't try using it for pasta you want to dry for another day, you can't separate it after squeezing, it really does have to go straight into boiling liquid. Might try doing crispy noodles by squeezing the dough into hot oil but suspect it could get a bit messy.
