Connects from backboard to 4-inch square pole or flat wall
The 316 U-Turn Lift System Bracket anchors your basketball backboard (back board sold separately) to a 3.5-inch round pole, a 4-inch square pole, a flat wall, or a roof. The bracket system fits all Huffy Sports, Spalding, and most other residential backboards that are up to 54-inches large and offers a three-foot height adjustment range for your net. Unlike most systems that rely on gravity for their anchor, the 316 system provides a firm anchored hold at all times and provides approximately 3 feet of offset from the rim to the pole or the wall.
- Backboard is sold separately
- In order for the rim height to reach 10 feet, your pole must be 9 feet tall.

The most difficult part of the installation was getting the box from my front porch to the garage. It weighs about 65 lbs, and the weight is very unbalanced. I put it in a garden cart and wheeled it. A lot of the reviews said you need "2 strong men" to install this, and the directions did say that 2 people were required for installation. The reviews also said that you would need "multiple trips to the hardware store" because not all the parts were included. A lot of the reviews also said that the instructions were horrible.
So, onto my install experience. I opened the box and pulled out the instruction booklet. There weren't a lot words, but the diagrams were accurate. I read the directions completely, laid out the pieces and checked to make sure they were all there. The only extra parts required are the lag bolts needed to attach the bracket to the roof. I made one trip to the hardware store to get the lag bolts. The only part of the installation that was moderately difficult was attaching the contraption to the roof. Those parts weighed about 50 lbs, but we're not that difficult to balance with one hand while putting a couple temporary lag screws in to hold it in place with the other hand. With both hands free, it was easy to drill the holes and install the rest of the lag bolts and nuts. Attaching the remaining pieces was easy once the bracket was attached. Installing the lift took about 1 HR and 15 minutes.
I also bought the " Spalding 79354 Backboard/Rim Combo with 48-Inch PolyCarbonate Backboard" to go with it. Again, I read all the directions, sorted and accounted for all the pieces and installed the backboard by myself. The directions for the backboard were similar, not a lot of words, but the pictures were very well detailed. I also installed this by myself, in the rain. I simply balanced the board on the top of the step ladder and installed the bottom first. The top I balanced with one hand and pushed the screws and washers through with the other.
While it would have been a bit easier to have a helper hold the bracket and the backboard for me while putting in the first couple screws, it was not necessary. Don't let all the reviews stop you from ordering this product. The only complaint I have is that the pole that comes with lift system isn't long enough to change the height without standing on a ladder. But I don't anticipate having to change the height very often, so it's a minor inconvenience. It's a nice sturdy well made product that should last for years.
Used 3/8 3.5" full threaded 10 lag bolts with washer (5 on each side) . 2x4 treated wood 2' long screwed in the ceiling of garage (see picture).
whole installation with some help took about 2 hrs.
Make a long story short, it works GREAT. 16 yo and his buddies hang off this thing all the time. This is not going anyplace!
Took a full 2 days to get it right but it was worth it.
I'll try and post pictures if I can.
