This is a new item and not returnable. I learned a big lesson during replacing the lamp for my Samsung S7178W that I would like to share here. I bought a new Philips lamp from Amazon. After installed and watching for 7 days with beautiful picture then my TV started shutting down by itself with 3 LED lights flashing in front of the TV. The TV brightness was not adjustable for some reason while it was working. I thought it was the lamp was heating up and became defective so I returned it. When I got another lamp the problem was still the same that the TV will turn on for a few minutes and shut down itself with 3 LED lights flashing. If you have 2 lights flashing then it is other issue. I started to search the internet but could not find definitive solution. I then bought this ballast and it did not solve the problem either. The color wheel looks fine but when I use my finger to rotate it, it will only move about half turn. After I replace the color wheel the problem went away so it seems the old color wheel may not running properly with the rpm required especially after I replace the lamp possible due to the heat created with the new lamp.

During the investigation of the issue, I have learned that the DLP light engine is quite sophisticate system so no wonder there is so many possibility to cause this 3 LED flashing problem that seems no definitive one solution to fix all the problems that people reported on Internet. The ballast is used to turn on the lamp and keep it on. There is digital circuits on the ballast to control and feedback the status of the lamp to the DMD board. The DMD board is the major control unit for the light engine. It has sensors to monitor the color wheel and the DMD engine too.

This fit perfectly in our HL-S6767W (Samsung 67" DLP) and was a direct replacement part (by part #, by look, by fit), however my TV issues were unfortunately not solved because the part came DOA or at least partially DOA (I actually had some high-pitched noises that ceased after replacing this item so it wasn't as dead as my original board however, the replacement ballast board obviously was not new/working). I did not realize this at first until I finally gave up on fixing it myself due to time constraints and took it to an authorized repair center at which time, and to my surprise, they told me it needed a new ballast board which I had just replaced myself (I have an electrical engineering degree btw, I'm not some scrub). In the end, I could not return it because they swapped it out for yet another ballast board, but it was clear by the context that the board I was sent had to be bad.

My story aside, the board was relatively easy to replace. Just be knowledgeable about ESD, replace the silicone on the tiny plug that you will need to remove from the board, and when in doubt take a lot of pictures on your phone as you disassemble in case you forget how something goes back together.

My Samsung 60 inch DLP kept making clicking noises then turning off. I replaced the Ballast and my TV is back to new, just like the info I read over Google and YouTube. I also replaced the LAMP and that made a world of difference too.

My 61" Samsung would not turn on ... the 3 flashing lights of death? I replaced the bulb, and it came back on for a day ... but 3 flashing lights again the very next day? Did some research, and determined there was a very good chance replacing the ballast would resolve this issue. Is a little more complex that installing a lamp, but only took around 30 minutes. Works like a champ again!

My model is HL-S6186W ... literature out there is a little unclear on the ballast for that particular model, but this ballast is working for mine.

if your tv dlp keeps turning off and its not the bulb then its this sucker - be prepared to video your process to install this because after many screws and digging deep into the tv - i finally found where this belongs and the tv now works almost like new. and doing it myself saved me a few hundred bucks

Simple installation, perfect fit. TV was blowing bulbs every week or so, and that gets expensive to replace. It's been working for over a month now, with no bulb issues. Picture is bright and clear. The TV comes on quickly and quietly.

After reading several other reviews, I replaced this ballast and light bulb at the same time. I tried to replace the original DLB bulb with a cheaper non OEM replacement bulb for $53, I then had some issues. The replacement bulb would not light to full intensity. And after the bulb warms up the TV would shut off and all three lights on the front to the TV would blink indicating bulb failure. I then purchased an original OEM replacement bulb at a higher price of $95. The new ballast and correct original OEM replacement bulb has repaired the dimming light problem. And yes, you do get what you pay for. I hope to get another eight years out of this DLP TV with the replacement parts. The repair was not difficult. I had a stubby Phillips screwdriver that made dealing with the screws easier. Easy repair for the non techie and or a low tech individual.
