This is a really good soundtrack with a great blend of artists. Its very similar to the Judgement Night Soundtrack in that two musical groups are combined in each song. Where Judgement Night was about Rap and Metal, this is all about Electronica/Industrial being mixed with metal artists of the era. This album has some very good songs on it that work really well. The Korn Dust Brother song is a classic. However their are also a lot of songs that have either aged really badly or just were not good to begin with. Anyways, definitely pick up this album if your looking for some really good music, just expect to be skipping around the album a lot.

A helluva good soundtrack (pardon the pun)

The soundtrack to the 1997 film "Spawn" is the second of a trilogy of records assembled by Happy Walters which pairs artists of different genres with each other. The first, Judgement Night, mixed rap and rock (this was before Limp Bizkit, mind you), and the third, Blade II, combined rap and electronica. However, Spawn, which combines rock acts with electronic artists, is certainly the best of the three.
Part of what makes this album successful are Walters' choices for rock artists. More than a few of the rockers make industrial rock, and thus many of them are accustommed to working with electronic beats. Even those who don't make industrial often bring useful experience to the project: Soul Coughing has always been sample heavy, and Tom Morello is essentially a hip-hop DJ who uses a guitar instead of turnables.
There are quite a few tracks that are worthy of being singles ("(Can't You) Trip Like I Do," "The Long Hard Road Out Of Hell," "No Remorse (I Wanna Die)"), but like most compilation albums, it falls short at times. Korn and The Dust Brothers turn in a song feels a bit too minimalist, and the contribution of Henry Rollins and Goldie is almost too experimental to be enjoyable. Nevertheless, these are very slight blemishes on one of the most original soundtracks of all time.

I've been a Regular reader of Spawn comic since the mere beginning, ergo i had to watch the movie, back in the day (1997) the movie was half baked, a real shame becouse it was my favorite character at the time, but this not so good movie carried one of the best soundtracks i've ever heard.. to be honest for me is plain just the best one.

The idea of putting together one Rock/Metal band and one Techno/Electronica in each song made some interesting results, Having names like Metallica, Filter, Marilyn Manson, Moby, Incubus, korn, Silverchair, The Crystal Method, Sneaker Pimps, slayer, Roni Size, and so much others its almost imposible to fail to at least make a couple of songs to your play lists.

by now 14 years later it might not call upon the masses, but if u recognize any of the artists on the list give it a shot, maybe you will find a new album to love.

Thanks to the pioneering work done Rick Rubin et al. back in the day, the very idea of mixing dance and hard-rock has become the norm these days. Ten years back, however, it was not as widely accepted nor as likely to be a commercial success, thus the decision to produce an album of some of the hardest rockers and phatest beat-meisters was a risky one. Couple that with the usual unpredictable nature of soundtrack sales and you could have been looking at both an artistic and commercial white-elephant. Is that the case, here? Definitely not so! What we have here is perhaps the best ever example of dance-rock fusion. An outstandingly original selection of both tunes and pairings; fourteen solid tracks all uniquely original yet which all somehow see, to come together under a common theme, a common sense. Brilliant. What continues to amaze me is that nearly a decade after its release I still enjoy listening to this CD as though I just bought it yesterday, it is timeless excellence and a record that should be in the collection of anyone who appreciates great music, music without boundaries. All in all I cannot convey the staggering excellence of this varied offering, take a listen for yourself, if you like progressive music or dance-based rhythms, I am certain you won't be disappointed.
N.B. Incidentally if you are looking for a CD to run to or cycle to, then this is the CD for you. Go out for a ride with this plugged in your ears and you'll cycle twice as fast! Guaranteed!
