I learned so many things from reading this book. I am a quiet type of person and I prefer to keep my opinion to myself. I realized because of what I’ve read that I don’t speak up because I think that what I have to say will not make a difference at all. But this book opened my eye about the value of speaking well. Our words have value; it can make someone’s day or it can break a person’s heart. We have to be thoughtful about what we say and speak up especially when we need to voice out what is right. The author provided sound advice on how to speak articulately and with purpose in order to succeed, influence other people and open new opportunities.
I am someone that has done fairly well when I've done speaking but I don't seek it out. I tend to get so nervous! This book is fantastic and really helped me to see things in a new way and really understand speaking on a deeper level. It has some great advice and tips and I feel eager for my next speaking opportunity. Definitely recommend!
This short, concise book speaks volumes and hits the nail on the head. Each chapter gets right to the point with clearly outlined strategies to make your message, value and purpose easily heard, felt and understood. All of Aletta's advice focuses on connecting to others so that you are giving them the attention and value you hope to receive back—"What goes around comes around." I heartily recommend this guide to everyone because the skills of communication are what will lead to resolution and peace everywhere and in all realms of life.
Because of the public speaking I do – this title caught my attention. I was pleased to find the book relevant and filled with practical information, which seems easy to apply. The author reminds us that we all have a voice that can encourage others as well as propel us on to succeed in any occupation. I would highly recommend this book!
This book is much more than about Speaking; it's about Living! It reminds us that life is in essence about Speaking (whatever form 'speaking' takes in our daily lives) - and that if we fail in our Speaking we could very well fail in our quest to Live a successful and rewarding life. Apart from the practical tips in the form of the "how's" and "what to do's", etc., I found the powerful, insightful questions that readers are encouraged to ask themselves throughout the book - the most profound way of empowering the reader to take responsibility for and to make the most of their Speaking. In short, I believe that reading this book is a giant step towards successful Living!
An excellent book written with simplicity and is easy to follow. If you want to learn how to speak with purpose, speaking up and standing out, you would definitely benefit from this book. It provides practical ways of how to use your words to impact others and connect with them at a level where they can begin to trust you. The summary sections at the end of each chapter are especially helpful as you can pull it out on the go and refer to the specific topics and be ready to use the techniques immediately. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to have more impact through speaking and is committed to building their reputation.
Aletta writes in a delightful personable and informal yet accessible and informative style. She certainly practices what she preaches. The book is broken up into digestible sections filled with excellent advice and a useful summary at the end of each section. I will certainly be doing my best to apply some of the principles outlined in this extremely useful book. To quote Aletta: "Speaking is every word you say, every email, text,or message you send-every conversation you have" Aletta has good advice on all these forms of "speaking" and if you can apply at least some of them it will improve all facets of your life.
