Jeff Greene's info is topnotch. Besides the book he references many organizations to contact along your way to making enough money to take your speaking full time. If you'd prefer to continue speaking on the side, he gives you wording to offer your boss in order to get time off for your extracurricular work. Additionally he offers advice on effectively negotiating with event planners, or the gatekeepers. He has terrific resources of people he has worked with easily accessed within the book and within his resource pages. This was a terrific book, which reminds me a what polyglot Benny Lewis has said: "To get better at your language (speech) you've got to step out on faith and take action." Mr. Green encourages you to look at your talents and abilities with confidence. Every sort of subject can be a speech. All you need do is package it in an easily understood package. I, for one, feel confident to restart my speaking and this time to arrange for the amount of money I am worth..
Speaking of packaging he fills you in on ways to sell at the back of room even if you don't have a book or course already at your disposal. Mr. Greene's book is a wealth of information and opportunity.
This is really simple: if you want to become a paid speaker you WILL buy this book or maybe you are not that serious about doing this. On an unrelated note I just read a great book on the OJ trial (and more recent trials): When Prosecutors Attack!: OJ Simpson, Roderick Scott, George Zimmerman - Baseless Government Attacks and the Media That Lets It Happen
Wow, I'm so glad I did! It's a must-read for anyone who has any interest in public speaking. The author has packed it with actionable tips that would take years to figure out on your own. I marked up many of the pages..."Do This!" "Great Tip!" "Awesome Idea!!!" ...and I can't wait to put them into action!
I found Jeff very engaging and his topics on this book are so spot on that if you follow the process that he did, it makes starting your own speaking practice not just possible but very probable! If you are ever considering doing public speaking, you must read this book!!!
Through his own life experiences and a smattering of interviews from public speakers, the reader gains valuable direction and information on the tools needed to begin marketing yourself as a speaker, fee and travel considerations, where to find speaking gigs, and much more. This book is an excellent resource and essential read for those who want to share more with the world or within their industry while maintaining a career and is also great for business experts who have discovered their message and are ready to speak publiclly.
I highly recommend reading Jeff's book to get started on the next chapter of your life. I also suggest becoming a member of your local Toastmasters International chapter or the Public Speakers Association to help you be successful with speaking on the side.
