I love this application. The first thing you should do is make the following 3 customizations:

1. Say or type "Your name is Julie" and the app will respond to her new name. She will let you know what she thinks about her new name...
2. Say or type "My name is Daddy" and Julie will refer to you as Daddy.
3. Say or type "Change your voice". The 4 voices included in the software are very natural and realistic but it defaults to the system's mechanical "Stephen Hawking" voice. Change it immediately!

What can this app actually DO for you? Well, it allows you to control your Android completely by voice. Ask "Julie" to play your music or videos. Ask for directions to anywhere. Ask for the the time. Ask what's the weather like in Istanbul.

If you say "Julie, list your skills.", she will display a list of many of her abilities. Tap on each one and you will get more details about what she can do for you and how to control her. Those reviewers who wanted a manual just weren't smart enough to ask her what she can do! 8) It only took me about 5 minutes to set her name, my name, change her voice, customize her appearance and master her command list.

Need to find a picture of anything on the web, say "Show me a duck-billed platypus" and she will do a Google Image Search.

She can dial phone numbers and send text messages for you. No need to scroll through your contact list or remember phone numbers. Say "Text Jim" and she is ready to send a text.

Ready for some Angry Birds Space action? Well, just ask her to open the game! She can open apps & games.

I have the version for the Kindle Fire HD.

One caveat: To really get the most out of this app, you need to download Google Voice Search. It's not available in the Amazon Appstore, but there are places online you can get it. Without this component, you'll have to type in everything you ask the assistant.

You can ask it what the weather will be like tomorrow. You can ask it to play a song. You can ask it to find you the nearest pizza. And of course, you can ask it directions. (That last one it does with varying degrees of accuracy, depending on how you describe where you want to go.) There are a host of other things you can ask it to do for you. You can find them all in the instructions.

You can change what the assistant's avatar looks like, and even its name. It downloads the new appearance and remembers whatever name you give it.

One caveat (and the reason it doesn't get 5 stars from me): It doesn't integrate well into some of the Kndle Fire's apps. E.g., you can ask it to play from any music you have in the Google Play Music app, but it won't play music in the Amazon music app. Similarly, there's no way (that I've found, anyway) to tell it to open a Kindle book for you.

I would live to be able to use this app as it was designed. However the kindle fire hd does not come with voice recognition software and it seems it can only downloaded from the google play store which in turn is not available to kindle fire users. Hoping that this can be fixed soon.

As has been pointed out already, it does not work with the Kindle Fire HD. It isn't because there's not mic, though, it is because you need a voice recognition app - Google Voice Search is recommended, and although it's out there, to use Google Play requires rooting the Kindle the last time I looked, and I'm not going to do that while mine is still in warranty.
If someone knows another workaround, I would welcome it. However, it seems very strange to me that Amazon doesn't provide that functionality right out of the box. I actually think Amazon deserves this one star review more than the app developer.

It works OK on the kindle fire but you can't speak so have to type. This app is like Siri. Type in "your name is.
---- to change its name.

Flaws: it repeats a lot, sometimes it doesn't understand you,and it can't really do a lot of things

Otherwise, this is a really cool and fun app. you should try it. very helpful and fun.

this app is pretty cool at first. i mean, everyone loves the games that you can talk to right? i never did learn how to actually speak to her/him, not just type. this game would have been better if it had more options. most of the time, the person says something like, " I couldnt follow you on that" etc. fine game anyway.

The Speaktoit digital assistant provides the same voice enabled search capabilities that the Android OS has always enjoyed, but now there's a customizeable face to place with the info. Though not yet as data rich as Siri on iOS, it does do most of the same tasks. Regular updates from the developer ensures that Speaktoit will only get better.

Alas, the voice limitations on the Kindle Fire take out some of the magic. I'd like to use SVOX voices which are more natural sounding, but they currently aren't available in the Amazon App Store (though the SVOX Classic engine is). Even if they were, there's no way to change voice engines on the Kindle Fire. Also, the Kindle Fire has no microphone, so instead of speaking to Speaktoit, you have to type. I have this app on my Android phone where it works excellently.
