From the Author

Mimi Barbour - New York Times & USA Today Best-selling author started writing the Undercover FBI Series after she'd finished her popular 6-book collection, The Vegas Series. Not realizing how much fun it was to be in control of life and death matters, Mimi soon got a kick out of the power  she found writing romantic suspense and realized she had a knack for keeping readers turning the pages. She's never regretted her decision to publish these Suspense blockbusters. The reviews are positive and prove the readers love the characters, the compelling plots and the constant action.

Oh boy was this good. Unusual serial killers, rapist's, wife beaters, bad guys all around. Two separate cop shops with there star officer's out to catch the bad guys. When reading a good book written by a good author you are instantly pulled into the story. I could feel the love between the O'Reilly' s the frustration of keeping a loved one safe. The pain of knowing that you might not be 100% to keep them safe. I found myself reading this book with a Irish accent and as serious as some of the crimes, I had to chuckle! Their is such love between these characters you can feel it deep in your soul. I have read every book by Mimi and each one is better than the last. I thought the Vegas series was my favorite but I think this one may just become my new Fav! Love this series and highly recommend any and all books by Mimi!

Got this after reading some of the reviews. Can't say I agree with them, as most were rave reviews. The characters are far too weak in my opinion. While the story is decent it just seemed too scattered with no real definition behind it. Sorry but I expected more.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Coming from opposite ends of the spectrum, Finnegan, an FBI agent on leave after being shot is taking care of his father's bar after his father's heart attack, and Renee, a New York city cop, working undercover at a college to nab a serial rapist, these two meet in the middle in an attempt to set-up killers for hire. Renee, insisting to an old family friend (Finnegan's boss) that her father would never have committed suicide, threatens to investigate herself if something isn't done. I loved the fact that Renee wore so many disguises no one knew what she really looked like. Finn and Renee keep running into each other for brief periods of time increasing the level of sexual tension. Finn, struggling with his future plans which might not include the FBI, is flung into this investigation as the only lead seems to be his father's pub. Brought together in a joint investigation, our couple develops a plan to trap the killers. The plot, and sub-plot, were well done, a few nice twists really upped the overall suspense level. The writing was enjoyable making this a very easy read. The characters were very engaging, and the secondary characters, especially Finn's dad, were well-fleshed out. Except for Finn's boss' boss (the big boss), I found his one appearance a little out of whack, and his anger over the top. It just took me away from the story for a couple of minutes trying to figure out what his problem was. On the whole, a well-written, fast-paced, romantic suspense story. I think the way the plot and characters were fleshed out took this from a four star to five star book for me. Let me just add to those who are looking for it, there is no graphic sex in this novel. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

This is my first Mimi Barbour book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

When Special Agent Finnegan (Finn) is shot while on an undercover job, this news sends his Dad into suffering a heart attack which forces Finn to take a much needed break and return home to help his Dad run his bar while he recovers.

Renee is a Police Officer who has just found out her Dad supposedly committed suicide. Knowing her Dad though, Renee knows this is not the case and believes it was setup to look like that and he was in fact, murdered. Renee puts the pressure on Finn’s boss, who has known her since she was a little girl, to investigate the case. Then the request comes down from above him to investigate the case which Finn refuses to participate in as he is on a break. Then a witness comes forward about an incident she had while at Finn’s Dad’s bar and Finn and Renee are sent on an undercover mission into the bar to find the killers.

The sexual tension Finn and Renee is there from their very first meeting and only escalates as the story progresses.

The characters are all uniquely lovable especially Finn’s Dad, Joker, who is an absolute larrikin.

Special Agent Finnegan is a fast paced suspenseful ride!

I love Mimi Barbour's writing, and Special Agent Finnegan is my newest favorite!

Rene's father's recent death looks like suicide but she and the SSA who was his best friend don't believe that he would kill himself. When someone reports that an unknown caller offered to kill her husband for a price and make it look like suicide, NYPD Officer Rene Knight goes undercover at the bar owned by Special Agent Finnegan O'Reilly's father. O'Reilly's was the only place the woman ever mentioned wishing her husband was dead and that is the only link. Agent O'Reilly is on leave after being shot and is running the bar while his father is recovering from a heart attack so what better way to entice the killer's than to put the two together as a married couple who trying unsuccessfully to reunite.

**** "Special Agent Finnegan" (Book Two in the FBI series) by Mimi Barbour (individual novel and also in the "To Protect and Love" box set)

Having read the first book in the FBI series by Mimi Barbour, "Special Agent Francesca," which I thoroughly enjoyed, I was looking forward to reading book two in the series. The author did not disappoint.

I was truly enthralled by this novel. I have always liked Special Agent Finnegan; his supervisor and friend Jack who always seems to be having a bad day, month or year; The Joker also known as Colin (Finn's father and a retired cop) and the addition of police officer Renée Knight in this novel. The characters are consistently written very well. They are easy to relate to, except maybe Jack 😃, are very realistic on their attitudes, behavior, and actions; and interact with one another in very honest and relatable manner.

The plot line the author chose was very interesting and had many minor plot lines running throughout. Never was one dropped or lost, but rather they were all very detailed, written very well, and easy to follow while adding a great deal of depth to the novel and the characters.

Mimi Barbour writes with great strength and realism when it comes to this series of romantic suspense novels. And each one keeps getting better than the last.

I absolutely love the character of Finn and how much Renée changed him in good ways. I love the interactions with his father and vice versa. They are realistic, solid, and truly wonderful characters. And they added to the richness of this novel.

I definitely recommend this novel, as well as the others in this series.
