What would you do if you discovered there was a parallel dimension?
Hailey used to be an average, everyday human.
Boring, in fact.
After being possessed by Sebastian, a magically inclined enforcer from the parallel dimension Coursodon, her life took a decidedly less mundane turn.
Beside coming to grips with the existence of supernatural beings, she risked her life helping Sebastian and her heart falling for his handsome protégé, Alex.
Now, she has to deal with the bit of arcane power that Sebastian left behind when he returned to his own body and try to stay out of the crossfire when an unknown assailant seeks revenge against Alex.
Special Rewards, book 2 in the award-winning Coursodon Dimension series, combines urban fantasy, paranormal romance, sci-fi, and a healthy dose of quirky humor.

About the author

Scientist by day, urban fantasy author by night, M.L. Ryan prefers literature that isn't saddled with excruciating symbolism, ponderous dialogue, or worldly implications (she gets enough of that in her day job). She lives in Tucson, Arizona, with her husband and son, three cats, two Curly Coated Retrievers, and an adopted desert tortoise.

My balloon is intact and flying high! I had just as much fun with Special Rewards as I did with the first book.
Now that Sebastian is out of Hailey's body and back in his own. Hailey and Alex are heating up their romance.
But just because she's rid of Sebastian doesn't mean he's not still too close. He's staying with her and Alex, training her to control her new power.
When Sebastian was expelled from Haileys body, he left a little bit of his Courso power inside her. Now she has to get it under control quickly. Otherwise, anything and anybody could become a pile of ash or blown to smithereens when she loses her temper.
On top of that, the animals of the desert are drawn to Hailey, hanging out beyond her walled property. On any given day there can be tarantulas, hawks, deer, coyotes and many other creatures and they show no interest in each other. They just calmly stand and watch and eventually drift back into the desert.
When someone sets a tree on fire outside their rented ranch, Alex and Hailey are determined to get to the bottom of who did it. Could it be Alex's mother? She did summon him to visit her by throwing a talisman through their window. Or is it someone else? Do they have an enemy? And who were they after, her or Alex?
And that's just the beginning.
I'm happy to tell you, this is every bit as good as the first book!
I like that Alex and Hailey are fogging up my Kindle with their steamy romance. Now that they've put humpty-dumpty back together again they are busy getting to know each other a whole lot better.
And Sebastian is his usual smug and charming self.
There's a whole lot of action and we get to go to Coursodon! It's similar to our dimension in some ways, but quite different in others.
Hailey discovers Alex's roots and gets quite a surprise. And Sebastian gets in a heap of trouble that requires her help.
With so much to entertain, I flew through this book. I hope the author is a fast writer because I really want more soon.
I liked getting to see his world and it was so cool figuring out who he really was (and, yeah, there had been hints all along but I ignored them). I won't tell you though, because that would spoil the surprise! Again, the author did a good job of mixing various elements. And it was kind of funny when Alex's dad decided he wanted to take on the human name, Barack (after Barack Obama) and the main character flat out refused to use it. She went out of her way not to call him by name at all.
I was a little miffed when they talked about the crossing points between the worlds, though. They made mention of a lot of places that, hundreds of years ago, would have been uninhabitable, which would make sense why they wouldn't realize this other world was inhabited. But at the same time, the author said in the previous book that they were the reason behind various paranormal myths and all the locations she specifically mentioned don't have those myths. Nevada, the Andes, northern Scandinavia, and the Sahara aren't exactly known for their vampire myths.
It also kind of irked me that she loses this $25,000 check and she's bummed out about it. Why? Just get the check reissued. It shouldn't be a problem, right?
I liked Alex's dad and sister, who we got to meet for the first time in this book. And the ending was honestly a surprise. I didn't see it coming... at all. Any of it. Which was great.
Wrong! Special Rewards met and even exceeded my expectations. It kept me riveted to where I did not want to put the story down.
Hailey is the same person she was in Special Offers - cooky sense of humor, strange dreams, and overall loveable heroine; only she now has to deal with some residual magic leftover from her time as a temporary human host for Sebastian Kess, a magical being from another dimension. Sebastian is his usual charming (*cough* full of himself) self; Alex is as in love with her and as charming as he was in the first, if not more so; and Hailey has become somewhat of an animal whisperer. Or at least an animal Pied Piper.
In Special Rewards, we meet some more individuals from the Coursodon Dimension; from government officials, to the head of the Xyzok, to members of a royal family. I don't want to give anything away, but I must encourage you to read Special Rewards. Make sure and read Special Offers first, because while things are explained well, they will make even more sense if you have read the first book.
For those of you like me, who love the ever irascible Sebastian, never fear, he might not inhabit Hailey's body anymore, but he still manages to steal the show whenever he shows up. Such a drama queen, but don't tell him I said so. He would probably lecture me for hours about how he could not possibly be one.
Do you enjoy romance with a paranormal twist with a splash of humor that will make you snort Pepsi out of your nose if you take a drink at the wrong moment? Then this book is for you.
