Speck cases are awesome

If you just bought a brand new mac laptop, you have to buy a case, and not just a neoprene sleeve, an actual form fitting, clip on case. Apple products are expensive, buy something expensive to protect your investment!!!

I did a lot of shopping around for my macbook case before i purchased it. If you want to look at other manufactures besides Speck take a loot at U-suit, Macally, or Incase. They are roughly the same product that does the same job at roughly the same price even though some are leather, some are hard plastic etc... Clip on cases, not just Speck cases, have one major problem - they need to be regularly cleaned so small hard objects wont get in-between the case and the computer and scuff up the surface of the computer. Cleaning is not difficult - i only clean mine once every two weeks and it still looks brand new.

The great thing about Speck cases is that they come in every color of the rainbow and they are see through, so you don't have to worry about blocking off the precious apple light on the lid of the computer and you can also secure photos between the computer and the case - which is awesome for my girlfriend's computer. As for ventilation, there are adequate slots along the heat sink and by the vents for air to circulate. The only problem that i have with the case (i do not know if it is particular with Speck products or not) is that it creates a lip around the edge of the computer thus it makes typing a little uncomfortable. Don't get me wrong, i have written several ten-page research papers with the case on and managed it just fine, but when you get writers block you begin to notice even the smallest stupid things.

Great Protection...

This case is a little pricey...but so is the MacBook. And so if you want great protection for your pricey buy, go ahead and purchase this case. I have no complaints, it snapped on easy as pie. I haven't tried to take it off yet...but there's no need except for cleaning. I've only had it a week but I'm impressed. It doesn't cause over heating and doesn't get in the way. Definitely doesn't take away from the attractive look of the MacBook. Would go well with the white or black style. Great protection, great buy.

Peace of mind for the MacBook owners/lovers !!!

Hi there,

I am writing this review after having used the product for almost 2 months now. From the moment I bought my MacBook, I was looking for a case that would protect my macbook without sacrificing it's look. The very reason many people buy a mac is for it's beautiful design and who in the world would want to spoil that look and how would you actually do that without hurting it due to day to day use? Voila! I came across this product. The case is pretty hard plastic and has some nice cuts that gives good grip while holding/carrying the macbook. It covers the macbook completely at the top and at the bottom with openings on the sides for the different ports. There are fin like openings on the bottom case for heat to dissipate. That way you wouldn't have to worry about the macbook overheating.

The only thing bothers me with this product is that once you put it in on your mac, it is difficult to remove it. I sometimes feel that I might damage the egdes when trying to open. This may also be because I am not doing it the right way ;-)

But anyways, I would recommend this product for any macbook lover that wants to protect it from being scratched or damaged.

looks great anyway

Ok, so i got this for my boyfriend like a year ago. it's still in great condition and has done a great job protecting his macbook. One problem he has experienced is that since it's a seethrough red, it shows anything that gets under it such as hairs, dust, or whatever. We were fine with all that however, recently my friend who has the same cover was having trouble with her computer overheating, we went to the macstore and the guy asked if she had a cover and she said yes. He went on to explain that while the cases look nice and protect your computer, the little holes in the bottom don't really allow heat to escape since there are no vents above them putting the air out. He said that overall, the cases just trap heat in which causes your computer to run hotter which decreases the overall life of the battery. My friend took the case off about 2 weeks ago and hasn't experienced the problem since. My boyfriend hasn't really had the same problem, however he doesn't use his macbook as much as she does and hers is also a macbook pro with a bigger monitor.

immediately after buying my white macbook, i purchased this case to protect it from scratches and getting dirty. HOWEVER PURCHASING THIS SPECK CASE WAS A HUGE MISTAKE !!!!
upon removing the case just for a wipe down i noticed scratches on my laptop.
INSTEAD OF PROTECTING MY LAPTOP IT CAUSED SCRATCHES... MY LAPTOP WAS FULL OF MARKS AND THE BOTTOM CASE THAT HAS LINES TO ALLOW FOR VENTILATION CREATED LINE IMPRINTS ON MY LAPTOP.
I called speck showed them pictures, sent the invoice and everything and all they did was give me the run around but in the end they did absolutely nothing.

Furious does not even begin to describe the way I felt. My brand new white macbook RUINED.. ABSOLUTELY RUINED !!!!!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS CASE !!!!!!!!!

The cover scratches my MacBook

I bought one of these when I bought my Macbook to keep it in pristine condition, just a few months ago. I just popped it off to clear out a little bit of debris that got caught between the cover and the Macbook and find that all along the cover has been scratching my Macbook.

They should at least have had the foresight to make the plastic in contact with the Macbook of a softer material, or created a design where it won't rub against the laptop.

Really stupid design. It may have protected against some very minor scratches,but likely I'm worse off for using this cover (scratches on the outside of the cover are more evenly dispersed than those now on the macbook but both are of similar severity). I don't think in the long run it was worth $40, and I feel very misled by the marketing for this cover. Given the choice again I would have either gone for another brand or just saved my money.
