I just got this case today and am happy to say that it has exceeded all my expectations. It is simple, yes, but has nice lining on the inside to protect your computer from scratches. No zippers means no scratching or TSA problems. The pictures don't quite show it, but there is a flap that extends over your computer to provide full coverage in protecting the computer. The outside has some protruding pattern so that you have some grip when holding onto the case.
I often buy products and think, hmm, I woulda made it like this, or, I woulda changed that. I have no such thoughts about this case.
It only opens from the one side pictured, so you can not slide your computer into and out of the case while keeping it in a backpack. The flap that you use to cover the edge of the computer where the case opens is also somewhat tight, so it doesn't just slide in like i imagined it would.
This is a great case and the inside is padded so your computer does not get scratched, but it does have drawbacks to its opening design.
The case has what might be described as a slit about 2" from the top in which to insert the computer. You then pull the top portion over what remains exposed. Easier done than said. Because of this you cannot conveniently attach the charger with the top flap completely closed, but you can leave the top flap open to attach the MagSafe connector. It may be possible to close the top flap with the charger connected but that would be inconvenient at best.
The size is perfect, not too snug, nothing to scratch the MBA's aluminum enclosure and the price is right. Speck makes quality products.
If you haven't already found out, the aluminum used for the MacBook line is fairly soft. It's easily scratched and dented, if that matters to you. I understand the Air's display is delicate also, so handle with care!
This case does a solid job of keeping the MacBook Air 13 safe from scratches or small drops. The fit is overall tight and perfect. It has a soft, felt lining on the inside. The flap covers over the sleeve. This means there is no need for a Velcro or Zippers. This comes in the same style as the MacBook Air, nice and clean with a small "Speck" logo on the lower corner of the sleeve. This sleeve can go straight through TSA checkpoints without having to take the MacBook out of the sleeve. Come TSA checkpoints, I just pull the sleeve straight out of my backpack and put it in one of those bins. Have been through 10 or 20 airports by now and no complaints what so ever. I also accidentally dropped my MacBook Air about half a foot when in this case. Nothing happened, everything was in perfect condition.
All in all, highly recommend this sleeve if you are looking for light protection for putting a MacBook Air into a backpack.
Not much. Just don't expect to use this for anything, but the MacBook Air. There is absolutely no room for a power cord or mouse or anything else.
