Because the labels on unrefined coconut oil often caution against use with high heat, I had been using refined coconut oil from the grocery store for making popcorn. I tried many brands of refined coconut oil, thinking the unrefined coconut oil might scorch, but I was dissatisfied due to a lack of rich coconut flavor. By a happy mistake, I got the Spectrum Unrefined Coconut oil, and have been pleased to enjoy it for popcorn ever since. Unfortunately, my local grocer discontinued this product in favor of carrying more coconut oil brands (Is coconut oil a current fad?), so I tried new varieties of unrefined coconut oil, but none had the pleasing aroma of the Spectrum brand of unrefined coconut oil. It imparts such richness to the popcorn that one can even enjoy popcorn without butter.
Amazon to the rescue. Though the smaller jars are more convenient to use, and I much prefer glass for food storage, these large containers are economical, came packed together in a sturdy carton for shipping, and arrived very quickly. The expiration date is a year hence, so the product is fresh.
I had never considered buying food products from Amazon previously, but I was well pleased with this purchase.
This brand is A1 in my book and I have tried many of the top (expensive) brands!
Great deal for an even greater product!

Let's look at some facts... Spectrum is an organic producer which sells refined as well as unrefined EVCO in many different labellings, different containers, glass to plastic. Not a Fair Trade EVCO but one of only handful of producers that does not claim Extra Virgin anywhere on their labelling at all since there is no Extra Virgin EVCO anywhere sold in US when majority of others producers try to sell it as EVCO and use EVCO as a marketing tool. This is a GRADE C mix.
REGULATIONS: It's important to note that, while Europe has rigorous standards in place for the terminology of cold pressing (fully unrefined oil extracted at temperatures below 122 degrees F), the phrase 'cold pressed' has been used erroneously in the U.S. for a number of years, often employed as a marketing technique for oils which have been expeller pressed or even refined (which exposes the oil to temperatures of up to 470 degrees F).
COOKING: Since coconut oil is heat stable, it can be baked into desserts, and substituted for EVOO or vegetable oil. I will never give up cooking with EVOO, since to me EVOO is the best oil. I cook with EVOO not EVCO but for my popcorns, I go with EVCO.
SKIN: EVCO is massage oil, so is almond oil. Almond oil is the best skin conditioner. EVCO and almond+castor oil are the best for all my scabs when mountain biking since it keeps the skin soft and moist which does not allow it to dry which becomes very compelling to scratch and remove the scab which is a no, no.Read more ›
