In his own manner of making at times complex topics and words and processes understandable Erik opens with a very straight forward comment –‘Metabolism -The definition has been a confusion among many people and I think they use the word in the wrong context. When someone says metabolism, it usually refers to their metabolic rate. Metabolic rate is essentially how fast your body is able to turn calories into energy. It’s pretty simple. What you are about to learn in this book are some simple, yet very effective things that you can do on a daily basis that will help increase your metabolic rate.’ Diet recommendations – Drink Water!, calcium, avoid alcohol, eat small meals frequently, avoid diet soda, use vitamins C and B, enjoy spicy foods, don’t overdo the ‘diet thing’, eat more protein, add zinc and iron and potassium, eat ‘good fats (monounsaturated fats), eat over 1200 calories per day, alter your diet and the times that you eat, use Organic, eat complex carbohydrates, drink green tea, oolong tea, ginger, fish, drink coffee, apple cider vinegar, cayenne peppers, lemon water, balsamic vinaigrette, watermelon. Low fat yogurt, whole grains, cruciferous vegetable, raspberries, garlic, beans, lean eats, celery, and EXERCISE and control stress.
Short and sweet, a bit simplistic, every food or supplement etc that Erik lists he discusses in a manner that is understandable – an approachable way to naturally increase the speed of your metabolism. Grady Harp, May 17

Starting a new job last week I had to give up my "life of leisure" and start getting up early every day again. I could use some more energy and this book will definitely help me to get it. If I lose a few pounds in the process, so much better.
Mr. Smith has an obvious grasp of the important facts surrounding metabolism, and he shares what he knows about the topic across the first several pages of the book. Beyond that, we are introduced to some foods that will benefit our metabolisms, and then moves on to exercise. This is really where the book shines, as Smith explains several novel ways to give a jump to our slowing systems. The book ends with some everyday activities, such as getting some sun, which I can do in our spare time and without much effort.
After going in not knowing much about the topic, I am happily surprised with what I got when I purchased Speed Up Your Metabolism. Five-star review!
