It does not granulate or go down unevenly when used in diluted washes in my experience.
This particular bottle shape is pretty ideal too. The base is wide enough to prevent it tipping over, the opening is wide enough to get the nib in and out easily, it's overall shallow enough that you're not likely to dip too deep (when refilling I would suggest not filling more than half, or three-quarters full).
The last great thing about the Speedball ink is its ubiquity and the fact that you can buy large bottles on the cheap.
My only complaint (and it is minor) is that I wish it had a bit more of the quality of gel ink, if that's something you can get in bottle form. That would just give it a little bit extra body for writing with a dip pen.
I used to buy the cans of black leather shoe polish, that was a pain and it never got the leather to shine like I desired. As an experiment I tried applying India ink with a paper towel, and it put a high shine on my boots without any polishing required. It also obliterated any faded areas. That was nearly ten years ago and my boots are still going strong. I apply a coat about once a year minimum, and I will do a light coat before an important event. A quick rub on my black pants will bring a high shine when I am in a hurry. Two things wear gloves before applying, and let them dry for at least 5 mins before wearing them. A 2 ounce can will last me 5 years or so for one pair of boots.
I have also used this ink to highlight scrimshaw, and in a few cases to create a faux ebony stain on certain woods. I emulsified it with turpentine to stain white suede black.
Great high quality product.

First off, I like the shape of the container. It has a wide base and narrower opening, so clumsy me is less likely to accidentally knock it over than the Liquitex.
Both inks deliver a true black, as you can seen in my photos for comparison. the cupcake was inked with Speedball Super-black and the Avocado with Liquitex Professional Acrylic Ink
Both deliver a nice line and the Speedball black seems to dry a little faster than the Liquitex, however, therein lies the problem, and hence the loss of a half star in my rating.
When drawing with a fine nib pen, pausing to ponder your next line or even to answer someone's yes or now question causes the ink to stop flowing. Clean the nib, re-dip and continue was the only solution I could find. Not even trying to get it flowing on a scrap piece of paper would work.
The second loss of a half star came with the lid of the container. The ink comes sealed with a paper seal inside a plastic lid, similar to most bottled medications. You have to tear off the seal and I suspect, keep it as a gasket for the lid, however, mine tore, so I tossed it, leaving only the plastic lid. Yes it seals, but it also glues the lid to the bottle. I'm not feeble but it is VERY difficult to open the container after a few days of inactivity, adding to the fact that you end up with ink on your hands.
I like this product. I like that it flows freely and I can get incredibly thin lines, but I'd recommend with my notes from above... maybe someone can think of a better way to seal the container? In my opinion, Speedball should have included a separate gasket in the lid to ensure a tight seal.

It depends on what you plan to do with the ink, but it’s not a good choice if you need a solid black that’s waterproof.
