It was easier than I expected to install this collar. The space was very tight and obstructed (the ductwork is between the basement ceiling and the ground floor joists, where water and sewer pipes and electric cables run in all directions). The most difficult part was to make a 5-in round hole in the steel duct box. There was not enough space for most power tools or even a hand saw. The only tool that I was able to fit in the available space was the dremel tool with abrasive cut-off disk. Once I cut and deburred the 5-in round hole, it took me two minutes to install the collar.
This collar without damper is almost identical to SC-05D collar with damper. I bought both SC-05 and SC-05D because I did not know whether I will need the dumper or not. Then I found that the damper can be removed from SC-05D (this is irreversible because the dumper becomes damaged in the process). When the damper is removed and the hole is plugged, SC-05D becomes SC-05.
