About the Author
Samantha lives in Southern California with her husband and two beautiful children. When she’s not writing, she works full-time, reads anything she can get her hands on, and enjoys the Food Network Channel and most reality television. She is also fascinated by blogs, has an irrational fear of Facebook and, if there was a flood, she would grab her lap- top first, and her slippers second. She loves to write paranormal romance (because there is nothing paranormal about her life at all) and she is working on Book Two for Spellbound. She currently has two other finished manuscripts in the paranormal genre, and one Middle Grade horror novella, written for her son, who loves the Goosebumps series. She looks forward to the day when she can write full-time (and maybe pay the cable current, too!)

Serena and Logan describe their individual reactions when they meet each other, and from there, their growing feelings for each other. Serena is impressed with Logan's ability to remain calm and logical in the face of increasingly bizarre events, while Logan tells us that even though he is focused on what needs to be done in the moment, he is quietly freaking out on the inside, and his mind is shrieking that what is happening cannot possibly be real. Anger overcomes fear, as he fights to protect the people he loves--especially Serena.
I am very much looking forward to the sequel to this book, Everspell, to be released in January, 2012.
Spellbound is an amazing and magical page turner that will not let you put it down until the rides over. Even than you will be left wanting more. I can not wait for the sequel...
The author, Samantha Combs, keeps some tricks up her sleeve, as it seems that nearly everyone in town possesses some genuinely surprising secrets.
"Spellbound" is a YA paranormal romance, skewing much closer to the "young," rather than "adult" end of YA. As I fall well into the adult end of the spectrum, this novel had a much younger bent than I typically read. Nevertheless, the story was engaging and well-written, and I'm a fan of the paranormal genre in general, but older readers may want to consider that this book is definitely geared towards a younger audience. Parents should note that "Spellbound" is perfectly appropriate for younger teens.
The author provided me with a free copy of this novel with a request for an honest review.
I read this immediately after having read the classic "GREAT GATSBY" which is outstanding literature. Also, "SPELLBOUND" is in a genre that I would normally not read because teen fantasies about witches does not interest me. Keeping this in mind I will have to offer this review leaning toward what I think the intended audience might be looking for in a book. Believe me, I had to push the envelope of suspended disbelief and I read with a lot of eye rolling going on.
This is a story about high-school romance and shenanigans that becomes complicated by the fact that the new girl in school comes from a family of witches. In fact there are a bunch of witches and other supernatural beings in this story. Thankfully the author writes very well and depicts these young people in a believable manner. Despite my aloofness from being interested in the story, the smooth writing, strong character development, and natural sounding dialogue made the story easier to read for someone like me.
I liked the back and forth points of view from a handful of the characters. There were some fun concepts presented which made this romp kind of like "Bewitched" for teens, but with more serious consequences. The story rolls along with a nice balance of good humor, tension, and a touch of scary.
Over all I think this might be a 4 or 5 star rated book from the fan of the genre. I wouldn't read many books of this nature but I think a regular reader of this type of book would find a pleasant diversion in it and for those readers this might be well worth checking out. If you don't like stories about witchcraft then you should probably avoid it. But Combs is a good enough writer where she might win you over if you enjoy the high school culture and want something different.
What I'd really like to read is a book by Combs that isn't geared toward the teenage audience, but more for adults. She is definitely a good writer.
