The interaction between Jericho and Auric makes the book worth reading. They are hilarious. And Rill is my kind of independent woman, but I love the way her character subtly changed due to the news in her life.
The story wasn't as engaging as the first book because I figured out the bad guy right off and knew exactly his motivation. I thought the romance between Auric and Lotta felt rushed, although it was obvious there was attraction and interest there. I also found the change in Lotta's personality sudden and somewhat unbelievable.
It was interesting to see the clash of magic and mechanics here, giving it a much more steampunk vibe than the first book. I hope this fictional world finds a way to marry the two so neither is dominant and more people are valued.
I hear there will be a third book. I will be buying it because those magicians crack me up.
I love this book. Magician's Trial is everything I want in a sequel. Action, adventure, magic, mystery, snark, and above all, continuity. Yes I love continuity. Actions have consequences, and boy do these poor characters feel them.
I can't talk anymore I have to start the next book.
