Just get it - $5 is less that like $1 a day for year. I think.
Jen's book is about the holidays (obviously). I think that the inspiration for her book came from her hilarious blog post about the Elf on the Shelf (read that post here). In fact, if you like Jen's Elf on the Shelf post, you'll love her book. Her book is full of essays about the holidays, some of them satirical, all of them hilarious. She covers topics like cookie exchanges and the annual holiday letters (which are actually opportunities to brag about everything your perfect family has done over the past year). I love Jen's open, honest writing and I love her perspective on things. It's so nice to know that I'm not the only one who feels this way about many parts of the holidays!
I'm really glad I read this book and really enjoyed it. My one complaint is that it was quite short for the price. I wanted more: more laughs, more rants, more from Jen. I'm definitely going to be reading and buying her next book!
While at first I thought this book would be entirely about family members and friends who annoy the crap out of the author during the holidays, I discovered it was much more than that. This read draws from the author's views and experiences from her childhood to the present. Hilarious insights about Christmas cookies, OAM's (Over Achieving Mothers), The Elf on the Shelf, Christmas Santas and so much more.
From what I could tell, the author is about four years younger than me, and so much of what she wrote rang so true with me that I think we may have been separated at birth. Little People's McDonald's Playset? Check. Guess? acid-washed jeans? Check. Black Madonna bracelets? Check, please!!
I would have to say that if you are a female who did at least part of your growing-up in the 80s, you will absolutely love this book. For everybody else, give it a shot. It is really, really funny. One warning: If you take issue with cussing, this book is not for you. But like this author pointed out, she knows she has her peeps, and I think she's good with that.
Count me in, Jen! Hee-freakin'-larious!!
I about peed myself a dozen times reading. I totally have my own list of people I'd like to punch in the throat, sometimes I even tell them that I like to punch them in the throat.
She covers everything from dinner with the in-laws to light displays (I laughed til I cried) to Santa pictures to that "have-to-have" toy Christmas to those load of crap Christmas family newsletters to the dreaded cookie swaps (BTW, have NEVER been to one myself, but I feel ya Jenn on the overwhelming-ness of buying decorative trays/displays for your cookies much less for toting home your cookies- do these women hate Ziploc bags???!!!!).
This book is a great deal and if you like to laugh at the everyday stuff, you will LOVE this book!!!!

This was a gift so I cannot comment on the contents of the book. However, the title alone made the gift recipient laugh so that was enough.Published 22 months ago by J. Hicks
