While they definitely made Myuri and Col their own people, at times I felt Hasekura tried a bit too hard to make them the new Lawrence and Holo. I think he made Myuri far too wise and intelligent at times with a complete 180 shift into innocence as if to remind people that she's not Holo. She's a child. I don't feel that she should automatically be smarter and wiser than adults 2-3 times her age. Her heritage should be fine at explaining why she's on par with them, but not so far beyond them that she likely could do the entire journey on her own if she knew more about the world.
Overall, it was a good book just not as well told as the rest. The premise is amazing. The interactions between Col and Myuri are very good, but just not long enough. While it's clear that Col is inside his own head a bit too much, I don't feel that the amount of explanation and repeated thoughts are quite that necessary to show it.

This is more philosophical and less mercantile than Spice & Wolf but the same gentle energy runs through it and it benefits from that familiarity. New readers should beware - at *least* read volume 1 of Wolf & Parchment but ideally read all 17 volumes of Wolf & Spice first :)
It was around 280 pages or so with a few illustrated pages the initial colour ones were brilliant, if your a quick reader you can most likely read one of these novels in around 4-5 hours maybe less.
I will review the 3rd soon once i finish it and then move on to 4 through 6.
The second volume picks up where the last one stopped and i will keep this short, if you liked the first one, you will like this one as it improves in all details keeping the same formula.
Can't wait to get the next one.
