I orignally bought this for a chai tea recipe but oddly have had a hard time finding pure black tea leaf locally. I'd buy it online but it's more expensive and I drink too much tea so it's not practical.

Instead I buy the Tazo or whatever chai tea and use this along with some other spices to add more flavor to it. I'm not sure if it's my taste buds or what but I need a lot of flavor in things to taste them like other people. This stuff does the job and I love the smell. I've also ground some up with a pestle & mortar and used it in some of my cooking, obviously using the seeds and discarding the outside.

I'm still testing it out but it seems fairly versatile depending on the flavors you like.

My daughter has been after me to order star anise for her favorite Pho recipe and a few other recipes she's wanting to try. These smelled great, and added the flavor she wanted to her pho, and also gave the ability remove it after the level of spice she desired was achieved.

Almost all of them were intact in the cellophane package they came in - in other words, these were almost entirely whole, and nicely formed, if you are purchasing them for decorative/craft purposes and nice presentation is an issue for your needs.

My daughter is pleased and I am pleased, making me a return customer when we need more. This is a pretty good quantity for what she uses them for, so that may take a while, unless she finds more recipes that call for them. And now that she has them, it's a strong likelihood I will have many dishes using this spice in my future.

I couldn't find star anise in the 5 grocery stores I looked in so I ordered it. I don't need so many; I would have given it 5 stars if the quantity was smaller and cheaper. I will never use all of these before they get stale.
