A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

I was incredibly impressed with their ability to successfully make an origin story after introducing the character and without showing the power acquisition. They captured Peter becoming Spider-man, which is the more important part of the origin story than the spider bite. I kept seeing people latch onto the “Come on, Peter. Come on, Spider-man!” moment so I was on the lookout for it in the movie, and I gotta say…I get why people latched. Brilliant scene. Not just in Spider-man, but one of the best in the MCU.
Also, not only do I agree Holland nailed his performance, but Michael Keaton was perfect as Vulture. What an amazing villain, and I love that they didn’t hold back in writing him to be truly viscous while still giving him incredibly realistic origins. And unlike Amazing Spider-man 2 which tried to set up too many villains too quickly, Homecoming did it right by having one main villain while marginally setting up others in the background for later use.
I really hope we get more than 3 movies out of this Spider-man, because if this first movie is any indication, they’re on the completely right track to do it. Clearly being brought back into the Marvel fold was the best thing to happen to this franchise. This is not only my favorite Spider-man, but it immediately become one of my favorite MCU movies to date.
Michael Keaton is phenomenal and probably the best MCU villain to date. You sympathize with and understand his motivations, he's not out to rule or destroy the world. He's trying to succeed in a world that's changed so much by the arrival of super heroes, his only goal is to keep his family prosperous.
I am so glad Spider-man is in the MCU and I'm excited to see where the series goes and how Tom Holland grows the character to the heights he deserves as Marvel's flagship hero.
My least favorite parts of the movie were the fact that spiderman seemed more like iron-man with the amounts of abilities in his new suit.
Does it seem fitting to the character, not necessarily, but this was acceptable to me because Spiderman has used suits made by Iron-Man before and those also had the same types of extra powers. I just really enjoy the heart of the character and that showed quite well here as he has to fight between being Peter Parker and Spiderman. Well as Iron-Man is both Tony Stark and Iron-Man and doesn't care that everybody knows.
Without spoiling anything, although his suit is neat, I prefer the "lower-tech" spiderman from back in the day. That being said, Karen is awesome.
I'm going to stop writing now before I ruin the whole thing. I'll leave you with this: Is he tough? Listen bub, he's got radioactive blood. He spins a web, any size. Catches thieves just like flies. Look out! He is a Spider Man!
