My thoughts on the films themselves:
The first film is tons of fun and still holds up thanks to its fully-realised and well-developed characters. It really captures the magic of those first Amazing Spider-Man issues from the early sixties, that Raimi himself is a huge fan of. Maguire shines as the awkward teen who just wants to get the girl, while the supporting cast makes for a fantastic ensemble that makes you fall in love with the colourful characters from the comics.
In my opinion, Spider-Man 2 is the best comicbook movie ever made. Raimi crafted the perfect Spider-Man tale for the big screen with such care and precision. The film explores the characters perfectly, reminding us why we love the Amazing Spider-Man so much! It has some wonderful performances including Spider-Man himself, Tobey Maguire, who portrays a Peter Parker who is struggling to balance his life as a wall-crawling 'menace' and his life as Peter Parker. The film is really about Peter Parker, far more than it is about his confident alter-ego. Raimi shows that is is the man behind the mask that makes the hero, not the powers he has been granted. Alfred Molina gives one of the best villainous performances ever as the sympathetic villain who is being driven more and more mad throughout the film, giving a third dimension to the mad-scientist caricature. Rosemary Harris will always by my Aunt May. My favourite scene in the film comes when she tells Peter why Spider-Man is so important, and that he MUST return! She is simply brilliant as the stern yet comforting May. Dunst, Simmons and Franco are all great, too, delivering endlessly memorable performances.
Spider-Man 3 is clearly the weakest of the trilogy, but I don't think it's as bad as some may say. If you loved the first two, you'll at least get SOME enjoyment out of the third. I'd say the first two acts are pretty solid, while it's third act loses focus due to the forced inclusion of Venom, by the studio. Still, I think it's an enjoyable film that continues to develop the characters and gives us a heartfelt finale to Harry Osborn's character-arc.
Raimi's trilogy overshadowed the Star Wars prequels, but they are not as celebrated as they once were. While later portrayals of the iconic web-slinger have pleased some and disappointed others, I found Maguire's to be the most sincere, heartfelt portrayal. The screenwriters and Sam Raimi really knew how to get this character right, and they did. The first two movies focus entirely on the characters, and it shows! While the MCU may often guarantee a fun time at the cinema, Spider-Man: Homecoming won't ever be as treasured as Raimi's films, due to their beautiful storytelling.
The Spider-Man Trilogy Limited Edition Collection contains the 3 Spider-Man movies in a Blu-ray set that is more like a book. The first 40 pages contain behind the scenes information about each of the three movies, before revealing the discs in separate cardboard sleeves. In my case the sleeves hold the discs well, you would have to shake the "book" for the discs to fall out.
The set includes four Blu-ray discs.
Disc 1: Spider-Man
Disc 2: Spider-Man 2 (also includes Spider-Man 2.1, which is an extended cut).
Disc 3: Spider-Man 3
Disc 4: Bonus Disc (Includes Spider-Man 3 Editor's Cut).
The digital copies are included on a paper slip as one code that is redeemable by Ultraviolet.
The code redeems five movies: Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 2.1, Spider-Man 3, and Spider-Man 3 Editor's Cut.
At the time of this post, the digital copy code expires on 12/31/19
