When Edge of Time was announced I was excited because I really enjoyed Shattered Dimensions despite its flaws. However, I was somewhat concerned with the release date of Edge of Time being just a little over a year after Shattered Dimensions. After finishing the game, I can say with certainty that the short development window shows.

The entire game takes place in a single building and the visuals do not vary much. In fact, they vary so little that I could hardly tell a difference between the two time periods. There are very few villains in Edge of Time and there is very little interaction with them. An overwhelming amount of the dialogue is between the two Spider-men and the villains have very little to say (one in particular says nothing at all). I don't want to give away any spoilers but I have to say that one of the final bosses is not very imaginative. I groaned a bit when he revealed himself.

I found the challenges to be boring and repetitive. Almost all of them are "collect X number of orbs in Y seconds", "get a X-hit combo in Y seconds", or "don't get hit while you accomplish some objective". Worst of all, the game is very short. I was able to beat the game and unlock all the alternate costumes in a few hours.

It should be noted that there are several improvements over Shattered Dimensions. Combat overall feels more polished and there is greater distinction between the fighting styles of Amazing Spider-man and Spider-man 2099. Edge of Time no longer has a button for evading melee attacks. Instead, Amazing has an ability to temporarily move extremely fast thereby avoiding enemy attacks and 2099 has an ability to create a decoy of himself that draws enemy attacks to it.

Spider-Man: Edge of Time really is very similar to its predecessor Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. It improves upon certain aspects of the previous game, but also takes some things away. One area where Edge of Time has made a great improvement over Shattered Dimensions is the story. We start in the future with Spider-Man 2099 in the Alchemax building trying to stop the latest mad scientist Walter Sloan (voiced by Val Kilmer, believe it or not) from using a time portal device to screw around with the timeline. Sloan manages to go into the time portal and Spidey 2099 jumps in after him, however the hero simply gets thrown back to where he was and loses Sloan; but not before catching a glimpse of an important moment in the future: a moment where the Amazing Spider-Man appears to be killed by a mind-controlled Anti-Venom. Meanwhile, in the present, the world changes in a flash due to Sloan's time manipulation, and New York is shown transforming into a more futuristic version of itself, with reality shifting to the point where pretty much everything is being run by Alchemax, which of course is now headed by Walter Sloan. Even Peter Parker, the Amazing Spider-Man, ends up as an employee at Alchemax. Thankfully, due to the manipulation of time, Spidey 2099 is able to set up a sort of communication link between himself and Amazing Spidey and tell him what happened. From there, the two heroes team up to try to put everything back to the way it was. The main focus of the game revolves around the two Spideys going through the same areas of the Alchemax building in their respective time periods and completing different objectives, while of course fighting many waves of enemies.

Compared to Shattered Dimensions, the number of different enemy types in Edge of Time is considerably smaller.

This is a truly great Spiderman Game that alternates between present day and the 2099 Universe. I think there is more intrigue and replay value to the Shattered Dimensions game, but this is entertaining just the same.

This is a fun beat-em-up game. Using Spider-man's attacks is really cool. Also neat is playing two different Spider-men. Spider-man 2099 seems more powerful than Amazing Spider-man, and 2099 usually fights twice as many opponents early on as well.

Blue orbs are needed for offensive upgrades will golden spiders are required for health and defense. You get the spiders by fighting and the orbs are just laying all around. Many are needed for the upgrades. About one-half of the needed orbs and spiders comes from the challenges part of the game, ick. Did not like that aspect of the game.

I can't really say much more about the game. Part way in the first act of three there is an arcade sequence with Spider-man 2099 falling through the building. I HATE ARCADE SEQUENCES! They belong in the 1980's! Not today's games! I can't get through that part of the game, so I only played for about two hours. Very frustrating. I might try again, but I am no good at that sort of thing. I just wanted some beat-em-up action with Spidey. I am dissapointed.

Anyway, if you can get through it, this game can be fun.

I just play this game and is very entertaining because you have a new chapter in the life of Spiderman, but the only con is that the game is too short and you complete it fast.

The graphics are great also the storyline you will have some much fun!.
