I am 67 years old and having been drinking wine for 49 years (remember when the drinking age was 18 ) and on all the continents except Antarctica (anybody know any local wines there?) and have drunk wine out of everything from a petit tonneau (aglu aglu) a plastic cup (ugh) to fine crystal (ahhh). Finally I stumbled upon the Spiegelau Kristallglasfabrik Vino Grande line of lead free crystal Verre de Vin.
These are the best wine glasses that I have drunk from at this price. They are as good as many more expensive crystal glasses and are certified dishwasher safe (who would do something like that except with Stolzle?). The Rotwein-Magnum (code name Bordeaux) glass is large enough to be able to watch the Pleurs de Vin (code Wine Legs) and to get your nose into the bowl to sense the full aroma (bouquet) of the wine. The Rotwein/Wasser (code Red Wine/Water Goblet) glass is a well-proportioned glass that can perform multiple functions of daily wine consumption on the table with panache. The Weisswinkelch (code White Wine) glass is perfect size and form to enliven the fruits de mer with a delightful German hock. The Champagnerkelch (code Champagne Flute) serves it purpose of romance with grand finesse. There are many other glasses such as a second smaller white wine glass (Weissweinglas) and a Burgundy glass (Rotwein-Ballon) for those who have specific preferences and for the more curious there is always the Spiegelau Doppelwand Gläser.

All of these glasses are an impeccable choice, will look elegant on your table and are less fragile than some of the more expensive glasses.Read more ›
The downside: Could use better quality control. Of two sets ordered, there have been ripples where the bowl and stem meet, with an air bubble in one; and on three out of four, the foot wobbles when placed on a flat surface.
If you want handsome, serviceable glasses with nice feel, weight, and balance, and can forgive those things, these are fine. I had expected better from Spiegelau, so just 3 stars (3.5 stars would have been more accurate, but not four). These do have seams running down both sides of the stem and the name "Spiegelau" etched into the base of the glass.
However, I prefer my original from many years ago (now all broken) which were taller and could be mixed in with all my other stemware.

I've been buying these wine glasses forever. They are a great value for the price. Although I have different sizes, this one is as close to all purpose as you'll get.Published 15 months ago by P. Salter
So pleased with this purchase, these are now my new favorite wine glasses. Spiegelau will be my new go-to for wine glasses.Published on November 13, 2013 by Nicolas C. Creehan
These are fine wine glasses, but not the quality of Riedel. I bought a set of these to replace the set we had of Riedel and I can definitely feel the "mouth" difference. Read morePublished on April 26, 2013 by J. Williams
These glasses are superb for wine. They are favorites in my household and we love them! No thick rims (which I hate!), nice stems and they enhance whatever wine is being served.Published on February 16, 2013 by Susan
