Top customer reviews
Spigen Rugged Armor
+ Easiest case to take on and off
+ Curved area around fingerprint reader
+ Compatible with glass screen protectors
+ Correctly sized USB, headphone, and camera cutouts
- Worst grip in the hand of the 3
- Power and volume buttons fairly stiff/difficult to press
- No alternative colors/options
Verus High-Pro Shield
+ Good grip with the back texture, well spaced buttons
+ Color options that can be stylish
+ Compatible with glass screen protectors
+ Correctly sized USB, camera cutouts
- Difficult to take on and off
- Outer rim made of fairly cheap material that feels like it will chip/show wear and tear quickly
- No curved area around fingerprint reader (uncomfortable to press)
- Headphone jack area quite narrow/incompatible with some headphones
Supcase Slim Hybrid
+ Most protective of the 3 (has a hard plastic back)
+ Best grip in the hand with rubber sides, easy to press buttons
+ Color options available
+ Correctly sized USB, headphone, camera cutouts
+/- Looks like something out of Deus Ex
- Bulkiest of the 3 (makes your phone feel much bigger)
- Not compatible with all glass screen protectors
- Difficult to take on and off
For the clumsy/all-terrain user --> Supcase Slim Hybrid: Hands down the best protection you can get, and has the best grip to boot. Just make sure you get a very accurate fit with your glass screen protector if you're planning on using one with this case.
For the style conscious --> Verus High-Pro Shield: The fake brushed metal look on the back actually helps make it easier to grip and the colored outer rim makes it easy to show off and make your phone stand out and feel a bit different.
For the average consumer --> Spigen Rugged Armor: Hands down the best overall pick. Offers a great balance of protection and has great spacing on the cutouts. The carbon fiber inserts aren't for everyone, but after switching around between the 3 cases it's the one I just plain loved using most.
Please feel free to ask any questions and I'll do my best to answer them/take additional photos on request.
- the edge lip on the front needs to be slightly deeper. Its very good now but slightly more would be perfect.
- I usually rest my pinky finger under the phone in the charging port cutout and the edges of this case are sharp and make doing this uncomfortable after long periods of time. Rounding the sharp edges here would be nice.
- I used a magnetic holder in my car to mount my phone and have placed the metal plate between the inside of the case and the back of my phone. Integrating this metal plate or leaving a cutout for a thin metal plate for magnetic mounting would also have been appreciated.
NOTE: WITHOUT REMOVING THE CASE, WITH A LITTLE PERSISTENCE YOU CAN PERSUADE THE ICONS TO MOVE TO ANOTHER SCREEN/PAGE.
I LIKE THE SUPCASE DO MUCH THAT I BOUGHT A SECOND ONE, JUST IN CASE I MANAGE TO SCRATCH THE SCREEN SAVER - BUT DO FAR THERE'S NO NEED TO USE IT.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: So far it's (nearly*) PERFECT! I like that it's "heavy duty" and the fit. I also like the integrated screen and camera lens protectors, and the belt "catch" on the bottom of the belt clip. Now to see how durable the belt clip is (I've broken several of these clips on similar-type cases for other mobile phones).
One minor inconvenience: The sidewalls of this SUPCASE overlay the screen a tiny bit - else how would the case grip on and protect so well. If you try to drag icons from one screen to another, the rubber side walls of this SUPCASE prevent you from doing that ... you either need to take it out of the case to do extensive rearranging of your icons or work around using Remove and then Add the icon(s) to a different page. *I can live with this, as I don't think there's a better way to design the case.
This case however, has killed that streak.
The one thing that turned me off and turned me off the most was the button layout. I require close to zero force to trigger the power button and this is because of the extra "plastic" inside the case that decreases the distance between the buttons and the case. Check the image for more details.
Aside from the buttons everything else is fine, but the buttons are pivotal for a case and therefore ruined my experience. I know for a fact when I put the phone in my pocket the power button is getting clicked several times. And when I hold the phone with even a slight amount of grip, the power button gets pressed and the screen turns off (super frustrating).
I almost always purchase a Neo Hybrid if it's available for the phone because of the replaceable bands and highly reliable and clickable buttons but this device had an overpriced neo case and sadly I went with this case because of the price difference. If I could swap the case I would.
