When I first got my Macbook late last year, I had bought a different glass screen protector for it after seeing how the keyboard on my 2015 Macbook Pro 13" had scratched up the screen. However, that screen protector was terrible and full of bubbles and dust, so I returned it and decided to forget about screen protectors and instead just place a microfiber cloth over the keyboard whenever I closed the lid of my laptop.
This was quite an inconvenient solution, but I stuck with using the microfiber cloth until a few days ago when my friend suggested I use a screen protector since I had a pet peeve about people touching the screen of my laptop. So, I this time I was determined to hunt down the best screen protector I could, and that's where I came across this product. Although the screen protector is on the expensive side, Spigen is a brand that I trust, and they didn't let me down here.
Because this screen protector wasn't exactly designed for the MBP 2019 (seeing another reviewer say that it worked, I went for it), I did have slight difficulty lining it up with the screen as I could only use the camera hole as a reference, so it took multiple tries to get it right. I probably stuck it on and peeled it off more than 10 times, and I was getting scared that the screen protector would start bubbling and collecting dust on the adhesive side. But to my surprise, every single time I put it on there was absolutely 0 bubbling. Usually you have to wait for screen protectors to fully adhere, and then you have to manually push the bubbles out to the side. This one just stuck on flawlessly straight away every single time I reapplied it, with no need to scrub out the bubbles at all. And I only ended up with 1 tiny speck of dust trapped underneath, but it's hardly noticeable unless you really look hard so I can live with that. Very impressed with Spigen!
Also, the oleophobic (oil-proofing) coating on this is equally impressive. I can smear my fingers all across it and when I look under a light I see absolutely no fingerprints or smudges. The screen protector does not interfere with closing the Macbook either and easily closes all the way with no issues.
The only flaws I see are:
- The black edge of the screen protector on the top side is slightly (~1.5mm) thinner than the screen bezel of the macbook (see pictures). This is most likely because it is not exactly designed for the model of macbook that I have, so I really can't complain about it. Also, it does not obscure the screen, because it is thinner rather than thicker than the bezel, so no harm done. This is more of an OCD thing.
- This screen protector is bit of a dust magnet! Compared to the bare screen of the MBP, dust just gets attracted to this screen protector and tends to collect on it. I was checking it out under the light after finally applying it successfully, and within a minute specks of dust were all over it. But just wipe it down every day and you'll be fine. Not a big deal to me.
Very impressed with this product overall. If you want a screen protector for your laptop, this is the one to get. Bit more expensive, but worth every penny.
