This is not quite what I was expecting - I'm not sure why they even have the mat, since it contributes nothing and the moves on the dvd have nothing to do with the mat. Overall, I felt this was way overpriced just for useless plastic mat and dvd. Also, the video instructions really go too fast for my 4 year old and ends up just frustrating her until she quits. They need to at least have a beginner and intermediate mode or something.

We got this for my 3 year old daughter in follow up to the Bella Princess which she absolutely loves and has played with fairly consistently for a year now. Comparatively Bella Cheerleader is a huge flop in our house. Not nearly as visually interesting for this age group. She literally lost interest within 5 minutes. The box advertises for "3+" but I highly doubt many 3 or even 4 year olds would be very engaged by this. Maybe older girls would enjoy it but I'm not even sure of that. FYI - the baton is great for throwing at older brothers. If your litle girl likes to cheer buy her some pom-pons from the dollar store and save your money on this one.

We bought this video as a Santa present for my then-4-y.o. daughter. She instantly enjoyed and had no trouble picking it up. Bits and pieces only at first, but then she gradually picked up more and more and she does the cheers without the video. That was good enough. But it was my then-2 y.o. who was INSTANTLY obsessed with it! She watches it over and over, sometimes back to back, and she picked it up just as fast. She's now three. Now for the really astonishing thing. Big brother is/was 9. Even he secretly likes to do the Bella cheerleader (though he's got that clumsy, inflexible boy thing and a shorter attention span than his sisters). My 3-y.o. took this to preschool with her on a rainy day, and the whole class had fun.

As far as the claims about the mat and flimsy pompoms/baton. Again, not my experience at all. My children are not careful with their belongings. These get thrown around the room, stuffed under furniture, tangled in bedcovers and junked into the toy box with everything else. No tears, scuffs or torn edges on the mat in 7 months. The creases are still there which actually helps to fold it and stay folded, but aren't a problem for us. The pompoms and baton have held up just as well. Oh, another quality comment. The pompoms are a some sort of vinyl, so they don't get static-y, shed very very little, and have a nice rustle.

Redundacy is of course an issue, but that actually good teaching technique for this age-group. And lets be honest, even "law and order" gets old after you've seen it over and over.

Santa brought this for my 5 year old. We carefully read all the mixed reviews on Amazon beforehand. We settled on the Cheerleader version because some of the others may have been too hard--or too easy. It's great. With the Cheerleader version, even just learning the "Cheerleader clap" and a couple of arm movements is fun for her. Yes, the mat is sort of a waste, but mostly because we are using it on carpet so it slides around. I figured this would be the case. The Pom-Poms could be a little fuller, but I can grab a couple at the dollar store if needed. Overall, she loved it, but I did have to explain that she'll learn a little at a time. There was no frustration, just fun. She can't wait to put it in when her friends come over. Perhaps I'll grab some extra pom-poms to have on hand. Worth the money for us.
