A sigh and smile worthy romance that is so enjoyable.

Spinster by Suzanne G. Rogers is a sweet romance set in England during the 1890's. It begins with the homecoming of Clare's fiancee. Unfortunately, he arrives in London with a wife in tow. Although the late nineteenth century was more enlightened, society was still not kind or accepting of a woman who had been jilted. If she was blessed with independent means or a generous family who was wealthy , she could leave the city and live a quiet, lonely life in the country. However, even well thought out plans can go awry when fate steps in unannounced. Which is exactly what happens when Miss Clare Ladd meets her neighbor, Mr. Meri Holcroft. His well ordered life is about to unravel and neither Clare or Meri will ever be the same again.

Ms. Rogers' writing style is wonderful, with just the right balance of dialogue and description. The characters voices are uniquely individual with fitting personalities for both the heroes and villains. The plot is tight with a bit of suspense and a twist or two.

This book is clean and suitable for any reader. It is free of sex, vulgar language and explicit violence.

Intriguing story with a tenacious heroine

When Claire loses her fiancé to another woman, she decides to move out of the public eye into an old cottage her grandmother left to her. The place is secluded and peaceful, what more could she want when starting her life as a spinster? Such was the fate of many a young woman in the 19th century.

Unfortunately, the property comes along with a reclusive neighbor, Meriweather Holcroft, who would rather she not move in. When Claire finds he claims part of her grandmother’s river for his own (jealously so), their animosity mounts. But despite their troubles, they find each other endearing and love soon blooms.

But Meriweather’s family secret threatens their future. Will Claire’s family be able to overcome the truth? Or will she remain a spinster forever? I found Spinster an intriguing story, with a tenacious heroine in Claire that I quickly came to love. I think other readers will too.

Perfect for young adults in search of romance, Suzanne G. Rogers' "Spinster" explores the fate of spinsters in 1800s Britain. Jilted by her fiance', Clare, at the ripe old age of nearly twenty-five, decides to leave the bosom of her family for a small country home left to her by her grandmother. Clare feels it would reflect poorly on her younger sister's first Season by attending balls and events after being put on the shelf by her intended.

What Clare doesn't bargain for, is the intrusion on her property by an unknown neighbor that has dammed up the very spring that feeds Clare's garden and home. Furious at this act, Clare attempts to dismantle the small dam in order to restore her cottage to its former self.

Before long, she begins to feel part of the village and meets Meriweather, a handsome business owner. Soon it becomes apparent that there is much more to Mr. Holcroft than originally meets Clare's sparkling eyes.

Can Clare really adapt to spinsterhood in a hamlet with intrusive neighbors and gentlemanly merchants? Young readers will be treated to a delightful story that illustrates how delicate the social balancing act is in this era.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a fun clean read. I generally read a couple of books in rotation so that I can read as many different titles
as possible. I was so caught up in this book that I put aside the others to immerse myself in this story. Try it you will like it too.

From the first, I couldn't put this book down. Familiar with Ms. Rogers' other romance novels, I had hoped this one would also keep me captivated. To my delight, I was not disappointed. The attention to detail of the clothing, gardens, spectacular homes, and particularly, the social status protocols, places the reader smack dab in the middle of the lives of each character. The way Ms. Rogers developes the story from beginning to end, makes it was easy to read the book cover to cover, with no desire to put the book down for a break. I only wished the story was longer, because in the end, I wasn't ready to depart from her characters and their setting, to reenter my reality. Congratulations on another great novel. I look forward to many more.
