I love Lesley’s writing and couldn’t have been happier when the beautiful cover stared back at me on my Kindle. I’ve read all this author’s books as she’s an expert at pulling on my heartstrings, touching my inner feelings and getting me invested in all her characters in an instant. If that’s not enough, putting her books down is an impossibility and this is exactly the case with Spiralling Skywards. Told from both protagonists’ points of view which I also love, I started reading Lesley’s new offering with great expectations and wasn’t let down in the slightest.
Figuratively speaking, the attraction between Sarah Carter and Liam Delaney is so passionate that it nearly burnt a hole in the pages! But their new relationship’s going to be tested by outside influences. There are a lot of negative goings on and far too many complications for their new relationship to grow at a pace they would have liked. Liam is Sarah’s brother’s business partner, Luke. He is older than his sister, highly protective of her, and this is one of the reasons for them keeping their affair quiet. I truly understood why they’d decided to not to let on and you’ll only find out by reading the book.
So the two get to know each other in secret. What I thought at first is how Sarah came across strong in one way but beneath the surface, she was like a broken little girl and extremely naïve. Liam is a hot, sexy man and is a lot more experienced, and a bit of a baggage made me wonder how it was going to unravel.
There are some extremely sizzling moments between the two that will make the reader’s toes curl. Lesley certainly knows how to write a steamy scene. I didn't warm to Sarah straight off but as the story unfolded, I understood her more and began to warm to her. Liam. Well. . . I was instantly attracted to him myself! The side characters Sasha, Luke and Will, even Sarah and Luke's grandparents are fabulous folk and I'm hoping there will be more of them in the next instalment.
Sarah and Luke Carter hadn’t had an easy childhood. Discovering what they’d been through gave me an indication as to why were like they were and I couldn’t have sympathised with them more. I loved the banter which had me smiling and the closeness between them, too.
I have to mention the music. One track that Sarah and Liam called their own has become very special to me. There’s a Spotify playlist to complement the book that is absolutely marvellous. Despite thinking throughout how different this read is to what Lesley normally writes, it’s still a rollercoaster of happenings and emotion that we get in all her books.
Five spiralling stars are awarded although I was bordering on four. After letting the story sink in and listening to the playlist, it left me thinking and desperate for the second part in the series. When a story makes me feel like that, it's worthy of this rating. I realise now that it’s going to get people thinking and desperate to get their hands on the follow-up. Cleverly written and full of twists and turns, I don’t doubt a couple of surprises are on the cards for us.
In this story too, she adds her special signature magic and brings two people from opposite sides of the world together with Insta-Love. Liam Delaney is escaping from his clawing ex, ruined marriage and general disillusionment of relationships. And where does he land, right smack dab in the bar where he meets Sarah Carter, l'il sister to his partner and bro-buddy, Luke Carter. One look at him and her sass sways overtime
"My heart regrouped and swam happily and effortlessly up through my insides like a mermaid, a beautiful smiley, sparkly tailed mermaid, taking up its rightful place in my chest, before picking up its happy, euphoric rhythm."
She's off limits for a whole lotta reasons but when your heart goes South and your schlong goes north, senses fly out of the window. And that's exactly what happens here. Fire meets fire and it starts blazing, albeit secretly. Soon its heat is visible for all to see and feel. The inferno that erupts, burns everybody. And I mean everybody. There's heartbreak of gigantic proportions, tears by the drums fistfights and misunderstandings like you'd wanna shake some sense into the characters and yes, there's a "vixen" Olivia.
"My heart once again shattered. It had been repairing itself all day. I’d sticky taped the fractured pieces back together and then bandaged them tight, but it hadn’t been enough protection, not against him."
My emotions went through a wringer and now on to book two for more knife twisting, cause why not!
This one doesn't end in a major cliffy so to speak, but I wanna know what happens next .
Liam meets his business partners little sister, Sarah. Immediately, he is smitten with her. They decide to keep the romance hidden for four weeks. When they decide to come clean there is a surprise waiting for both of them. Can Sarah ever trust Liam or will he continue to lie to her. Can Liam redeem himself? Will Sarah always have the fear of becoming her mother? I am usually a huge fan of Lesley Jones. She has a way of effortlessly drawing you in and taking you on an emotional journey. Unfortunately for me this story was predictable and the main characters were immature. I did not feel the connection between the characters and at times I was bored. I felt like there were too many filler pages and not enough action. The plot had so much to work with and yet I felt like it was missing something. Overall it was an okay read for me.

There was the usual drama, angst and humour that Lesley dishes up. It did seem a little slow to get going in the beginning.
However, I couldn't get on with the names of the characters, for me they didn't fit. I don't know why but that just niggled me throughout the book, but that's just my opinion. That isn't why I have knocked a star off; the reason I have only awarded 4* is because I didn't like Sarah's character, she came across as weak with nothing about her. I'm used to the usually spunky, sassy, opinionated female MC that Lesley creates. I get she had hang ups about turning into her mother but it just came across as whinny and immature. I had to refrain from shouting at my kindle "enough already. I get it"!! Also, I just didn't feel the connection between Liam & Sarah after a month they were professing undying love for each other, but I didn't feel any heat, the lust, sexual tension. Their relationship felt a bit forced.
Loved Sasha and Sarah's relationship and I would've liked to have seen this side of Sarah come through more in her relationship with Liam. We do get to see some sass and attitude and I loved it!
I was also expecting it to finish on a bit of a cliff hanger, so I was a little disappointed with the ending as it seemed a bit of an anti climax. I'm looking forward to reading the second part. I'm just hoping Sarah's character redeems herself.
Spiralling Skywards : Book One is brilliant from the start, we are introduced to Liam and Will and then Luke, Sarah and Sasha they are the main characters, there are a couple of others that feature briefly like Declan, Mel and then later on Olivia they all play an important part some more than others.
There's an instant attraction between Liam and Sarah but it becomes a little complicated when Liam realises that Sarah is Luke's younger sister and Luke is Liam's business partner and good friend and we can only wonder where this might end up.
Liam and Sarah start to see each other anyway and they decide to keep it quiet for now, it's early days. We of course know about Liam still being married, we are aware of the situation and of Olivia and how toxic she can be however Sarah at this stage knows nothing she is totally oblivious to any of this, add into the acquisition Sarah already has trust issues... it's a recipe for disaster.
Liam is such a nice guy but you know it's all going to blow up in his face all because he hasn't been honest, he didn't see the point at first and then it was too late.
You could feel the tension and the angsiety building and from the moment Liam told Sarah about his situation with his marriage and pending divorce that for me is when the story really took off for obvious reasons. Luke or Will still didn't know that they were seeing each other we had all that to come and so much more.
Honestly this story gets pretty riveting, what with Olivia showing up and causing trouble and Will declaring his love and Liam still not being totally honest with Sarah you don't know what to think, one things for sure there is a lot of heartache and a lot more to be revealed.
There's a very touching and emotional moment between Sarah and Luke and then again later with their grandmother both times gives us an insight into Luke and Sarah's childhood it's really sad and you feel especially sad for Luke but he did a wonderful job looking after Sarah.
Once Liam and Sarah were back together much to Will's disappointment it made me very happy there is no doubt about it they are good together, there are some beautiful moments between them and then Sarah has a moment of doubt. What an earth is going on!!
After reading the teaser to Book Two I'm speechless and even more anxious than ever, what will we be greeted with??
Thank you for this brilliant new series!!
Was a bit wary going into this after reading the heart break that is Lesleys Carnage series but im so glad i gave this a try!
Still jammed packed with emotions this book has it all and lots of Lesleys rpuches throughout especially her great sense of humour!
This book tells us the story of Liam who has travelled to the UK from Australia to set up a new business with friend Luke... but what happens when he sees Lukes sister Sarah across the crowded nightclub at his birthday party??
Sarah is 8 years younger than brother Luke and his friends.. would that become a problem when she notices the new hunk of the group Liam?
Darn this couple dont have a plain sailing journey through this book! And i can only imagine that doesn't change in book 2.
The story is great, much like the others it feels so real, it feel like you're involved in everyone and everything. If you've read her other books you'll love this and if you haven't what's wrong with you? Buy all of them now and read them! I love the marley and carnage reference I'm there! This book was everything I wanted and more bring on book two that teaser killed me I need more!
