Praise for Spirit Animals

A New York Times bestseller

"Mull kicks off the multiplatform Spirit Animals series with an exciting first installment." —Publishers Weekly

"Mull masterfully draws readers in . . . [they] will have a hard time putting this book down." —School Library Journal

"An insightful look at what it means to be a hero, with the glory it brings and the sacrifice it demands. The accompanying game offers an exciting off-page experience." —Kirkus

About the Author

Shannon's mother says she was a storyteller from birth, jabbering endlessly in her carriage as the two strolled through the neighborhood; once she could form complete sentences, she made up stories, bribing her younger siblings to perform them in mini plays. When she was ten, she began writing books, mostly fantasy stories where she was the heroine, and she continued writing secretly for years while pursuing acting in stage and improv comedy. After detours studying in Mexico, the U. K., and Paraguay, Shannon earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Utah and a Masters in Creative Writing from the University of Montana. In the interim, she submitted short stories and novels to magazines and publishers, saving all her rejection letters which she has since laminated into one continuous 60-foot roll which she proudly unfurls to audiences as a testament to her dedication and determination. Since the publication of her first book, The Goose Girl, in 2003, Shannon has become a beloved author to young readers as well as booksellers and educators. Her third novel, Princess Academy, earned her a Newbery Honor and is a The New York Times, Book Sense, and Publishers Weekly bestseller. Shannon has also written two books for adults, Austenland and The Actor and the Housewife. Shannon lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, with her husband, Dean, their children, and their pet, a small plastic pig.

Nicola Barber is an Audie Award-winning narrator whose voice can be heard in television and radio commercials and popular video games such as World of Warcraft. Nicola is also an Audie nominee in the Solo Female Narration category for her work on Murphy's Law by Rhys Bowen and Call the Midwife by Jennifer Worth.

The whole thing is a great book. There are great relationships between the people in the group. Very entertaining and adventurous.

I think the spy is either a green cloak that is not part of the group or the conquerers found Gerithon talismans ,which gave them the power to sneak into peoples minds, just like Gerithon can do. That explains how Rollan's mother was possessed.

P.S. IF YOU THINK THAT I HAVE A GOOD POINT PUSH THE BUTTON THAT SAYS THAT IT WAS USEFUL. IF NOT, WRITE IN YOUR REVIEW WHO YOU THINK THE SPY IS.

In Spirit Animals Book 4: Fire and Ice is about Tarik, Meilien, Abeke, Rollan, Conor, and Maya. In the beginning they set off on an adventure to find the Crystal Polar Bear to stop an evil force. On day two they cross a mountain. They set up their camp on the other side of the mountain. In the middle of the story they get the Crystal Polar Bear. If you want to know the rest you’ll have to read this phenomenal book.

My favorite part is when someone throws a knife into Abeke’s arm, and she didn't die! I like it that part because it was very exciting.

I would recommend this to people who like books with some scary parts and to people who like books with battles in them. I would also recommend this book to people who are 9 or 10 years old who have a high reading level because there are many words that are difficult to read. Let’s read the book and finish this quest together!

My 11 year old loves the Spirit Animal books. We bought this to add to his collection. These books are the only ones that my son has been able to sit and read without getting bored of them. He will talk about them for hours with anyone who will listen, which is so good because I know that he is reading them and paying attention to what he is reading. I definitely recommend these books.

My second grade daughter is absolutely tearing through this series, she can't get enough of them. She's a pretty advanced reader for her age, so I'm not sure if these are age appropriate or not, but she loves them regardless.

It's good I love it but so intense I mean he mother is with the enemies. And I see some romance between mellin and rollan. And I bet the one letting the conquers find them is tarik he is the only one who could any way but yay it's good.😊

This book focuses on the story of Rollan and his relationship with his flighty Spirit Animal, the falcon, Essix. He still hesitates to fully join the Greencloaks, due to his distrust of the establishment after growing up a street urchin, but he still fights with them against the evil Devourer. The four are growing closer to each other and learning that each of them carries loss and insecurities from their past. They struggle to overcome these painful memories as they search for the token of the Great Beast, Suka, the polar bear.

Probably the most intense of the books, the battle between the Greencloaks and the Devourer is beginning to wear the kids and their Spirit Animals down and the question becomes ever more forefront in their minds: can they win?

Now, I have to say, even though I really enjoy the series, I will not be continuing any further. The price of the Spirit Animals e-books has increased from $2.99 , to $6.99 and now to $9.99 for the upcoming book. I can't fault the authors in any way, but I personally feel like the time has come to take a stand against the unthrottled greed and manipulation of the publishers. These are Scolastic books- roughly 160 pages of large print. I find it reprehensible that publishers continue to raise the price on books that could encourage a child to read. So, the decision to to accept or refuse these price manipulations (translation: blackmail) lie with the parents, ultimately. I have drawn my line in the sand and I will no longer patronize publishers who feel the need to rape and pillage in an effort to punish the electronic reader.

Conner, Meilin, Abeke and Rollan, continue to travel the different lands of Erdas searching for the four talismans of the Four Fallen Beast (Briggan the Wolf, Uraza the Leopard, Jhi the Panda, and Essix the Falcon). They were the most powerful beings of their time who sacrificed everything to save Erdas from an evil King. It is believed that with the four talismans they will have the magical power to defeat the Conquerors.

In book four the Greencloaks travel to the frozen arctic lands, in search of Suka, the polar bear talisman. They travel and meet some new people, both good and bad. The problem is telling them apart. Jhi and Meilin show signs of a budding romance. Abeke does not fare well in this frozen land. Rollan makes a wondrous find only to have its loss bring him pain and uncertainty in who he can trust. There is a lot of action in this story done at a fast pace to keep readers involved. Please remember this is not a stand-alone book and should be read in order so that the reader does not become lost and confused by the events referred to in the book.

This book is another great addition to the series and I look forward to book 5, Against The Tide. My rating is 5 out of stars.
